I know it's a bit early to tell, but for all the hype around this team, do the close games against NC State and Georgia Tech (who has also had some close games) say anything to anyone?

I think you will have a much better barometer of this team by 3/11. By that time, they will have played Sonoma & UCSB, 2 teams that are rated above FSU. I think it's way too early to tell whether it was hype or real at this point.
