Based on the performance of my dogs last week (2-3, not quite as bad as the 1-4 posted) I have come to the conclusion that you should not bet against any Texas team at home, unless they are playing another Texas team that is better. And Barry Switzer's "Thieves Are Us" renagades at Outlaw U. still live on and will do whatever they can to cheat you everytime. :P

Based on that thorough research, I am going back to the drawing board this week and will need some more time to give you this week's winners.

Any Division 1 football program calling another "Outlaw U" is definitely the pot calling the kettle black. Every place is cheating at least a little, they just have not gotten caught yet, or their kids have not messed up enough to get noticed.

I'll agree with Dan. It is very difficult to stay competitive without pushing the envelope. Like it or not, offers are going to be made to recruits. If your school isn't offering something the recruit believes is better for him, he will probably go elsewhere. When all the better athletes are getting better offers, there is only one way to compete...and hope you don't get caught.

Okay, this weeks picks are based on my previously explained education of sticking with the home team unless the other team is significantly better.

We're going with-

Texas Tech over UTEP - TT got their season opening scare from Baylor last week and will come back with the necessary enthusiasm this week to prove they are still to be considered one of the dangerous big boys.

Texas A&M over LA-Lafayette - A&M was embarrassed by LA-L a few years ago. Coach Fran is on the hot seat this year. The Aggies will come to play or Coach Fran may be watching games from home long before Thanksgiving.

Army over Kent St. - Army hasn't been the favorite very often lately. To be the favorite by a slim margin, and at home, you gotta give them a break. Question- is it a big deal if the Golden Knights parachute team flies into the stadium before Army games like it is supposed to be at other games around the country? I'd be more impressed if the captains of the team parachuted in for the coin toss.

UCLA over Rice - big school, at home should win by 40 or more if they wanted to. But there is something about this game...baby blue vs baby owls...that just doesn't seem right.

Notre Dame over Penn St - Time for the Golden Domers to either prove or dismiss their national championship contender status. If they are the great media darlings America seems to love, they shouldn't have much trouble with Old Coach Joe's group. Anything less than a double digit victory should be a disappointment to those who make decisions at ND.

Featured experts for Week 2

DannyHogan knows best and for Week 2 he is pulling out all of the stops and unleashing his unprecedented Super Destroyer Special. Kansas at home is easily his surest guarantee since WrestleMania III, “Whatcha gonna do, brother?!”

Week 2 also highlights the initial public release of shrekjr’s all-star, smash mouth matchup for the month of September. “Donkey and I are on the road again with Texas Tech and we’re going to make this one September to remember.” After this weekend, shrekjr will make you a believer.

I can't believe people are taking Iowa State. They always play teams a lot closer than they should and when they are the underdog, they hardly every play close.

I think two or three seasons ago, they didn't cover once.

A little trivia for this weekend.

The last time #1 faced #2 in the regular season was in 1996 (Florida-Florida State). Prior to that, it was 1993 when Notre Dame took on Charlie Ward's Florida State Seminoles. Who was the starting QB for Notre Dame?

Myself and another co-worker couldn't think of who it was for about 20 minutes and finally had to look it up.

The answer is Kevin McDougal for those who actually cared (i.e. KnoxVegas and myself). He was the QB between Mirer and Powlus.

I know Tate was hurt, but man Iowa looked terrible yesterday in their OT win over 'Cuse. What's the deal Hawkeye fans?
