If the season ended today....

What would the playoff brackets look like?
I do not really understand the new playoff
format but I was wondering if somebody
could shed some light about the playoffs
if the season were to end today. Thanks

thanks...interesting. i know its way too early... but for the A division
it would be Tech v. SMU and Tulane v. Texas St in the play-in games. i have no idea who will take the 3rd spot in the North, behind UT and Tech...but for the South, assuming Houston doesnt beat A+M or Tx St. and Tulane beats LSU, the South seems like it would stay A+M, Tx St. and Tulane...any thoughts on who you think will take the 3rd spot in the North?

Personally it looks to me like SMU has a pretty good spot as far are as the #3 seed goes, which is why last weekend's game against baylor was so pivotal. IF North Texas gets it going they will have a shot, did i mention it's a good time to be playin in the south?

For Div A
North - Tech, UT, and SMU
South - TxSt, A&M and Tulane

It should be interesting this year.

Division wins

Postby JStoops on Tue Feb 22, 2005 1:14 pm

I'm confused on which division games count toward a team's in-conference record. I know each team plays every divisional opponent, be it North or South, but what about the games that are played against conference teams in the other division? I know UNT is playing every team in the LSA and some teams are not, so how does their record against the 6 teams in the South count?

The fact that UNT is playing many teams in the south has no significance towards the playoff standings.... the only factors that come into play is inter-division play such as UNT vs. Tech or UT....this is what determines each LSA division standing

So does each team only have to play 5 conference games each year within their division?

Division Games

Postby Karl Lynch on Tue Feb 22, 2005 3:16 pm

JStoops,

Div. A North teams must play each other for playoff position. Only those games count toward playoffs.

Same is true for South Div. A, North B, South B.

This format has allowed all Division A and B teams great latitude in scheduling non-conference games. The LSA is playing the most non-conference games in its history from top to bottom. In Div. A, Baylor, Texas, Tech, A&M are playing national schedules. It's awesome. Next year, even more teams will have national schedules. Hopefully, with some clutch LSA wins the LSA may get some looks for an at-large bid to the tournament.

Post season

Postby Karl Lynch on Mon Feb 28, 2005 3:14 pm

The South Bracket for Division A is full.

A&M 5-0
TSU - with three wins including win over Tulane have second seed. TSU has the tie-breaker with Tulane with head to head win.
Tulane - with win over Houston. Even with loss to LSU would still go ahead of Houston because of head to head.

If there is a combination that I am missing please let me know.

The North Bracket is completely undecided with SMU's big win over UT.

NOT SO FAST MY FRIEND!!!!! IT LOOKS LIKE A 3-WAY TIE BETWEEN TECH, SMU, & t.u., WITH TECH AS THE FRONT RUNNER WITH THE WIN OVER SMU. SMU CURRENTLY IS SITTING IN 2ND AFTER PULLING OUT A SHOCKER OVER the horns. I TELL YA WHAT, THE GAME THIS WEEKEND DOWN IN AUSTIN WILL CLEAR THIS PICTURE UP A WHOLE LOT. t.u. COULD END UP THIRD IN THE NORTH DIVISION AFTER WINNING THE WHOLE LEAGUE LAST YEAR. I GUESS THEY ARENT CHEATING WITH INELGIBLE PLAYERS LIKE THE BASKETBALL TEAM!
peace.

LSU

Postby Karl Lynch on Mon Feb 28, 2005 5:56 pm

Thanks Tom. There is one combination left.

If LSU runs the table against TSU and Tulane, they could get the last spot with a 3-2 mark in the South.
