Top Goalies in the LSA?

With the recent graduation and peoples 4 yr. eligibilty is up what does the LSA look like for goalies this up coming season. Is there any new talent coming and is there any old talent coming back?

This being his "last chance to dance" I would look for big things again this season from Texas State's keeper, Mike Galvin. He will dominate this spring . Also, I believe Garret's replacement at Texas is a guy named Will something, I know he can play as well. Any others out there?

Austin High's goalie (Alex Barfield) went to A&M this year, i m pretty sure he'll be playing with them.

The Goalie from Southwestern was solid last year when we played them. Probably the best that the B has to offer. Who knows who will come out of UTA though, they have always produced solid goaltending.

Baylor picked up a kid from MN who is straight sick. Quickest hands I've seen.

Southwestern's goalie isnt the only goalie thats good in the B division. The St. Ed's goalie can play very well and the trinity goalie has good skills. It really comes down to the team play, because goalies feed off that.

i'm afraid that the game of lacrosse doesn't boil down that easily, it comes down to a lot of different things. a good goalie with bad team play is a frustrated goalie, and one with supreme team play can end up bored and find it hard to stick out. that said i'm excited to see all the new keepers the lsa has to offer

Mike is right if you look back in the B-Division especially you have a couple of examples to look at. Great teams are defined not by a single unit or goalie, but by all units being good. Back in 2004 everyone thought that Nichols State had the stoutest defense in the league. Their individual defense was pretty good, but their team defense was brought down emensely by their goalie play. Inversely if you look at UTD that same year, they had a bad team at every position but goalie, that guy was tremendous, held teams to lower goal totals despite the play of the guys in front of him.

Now look at the teams that have won the championship in the past few years. Southwestern has had great team defense along with great goalie play. A good defense helps a goalie tremendously, and a good goalie can bail out a defense when breakdowns do occur.

Our defense at UTA in 2004 was similar to that of Southwesterns the past few years. We are striving to get back to that.

Defense isn't just about a goalie, it's not about one great defensive stopper. It's about a unit playing as one and knowing their roles.

Remember that playing goalie isn't just about making saves, it's about leadership, clearing, hustle, desire, heart, mental fortitude. A great goalie exhibits all these things.

Mike, I think you're taking what Landon said in absolute terms. Of course a team can't stand completely on a goalie, and of course a goalie can't count on his team to do all the work.

I think what Landon was trying to say is that the play of a goalie can change the tempo, attitude and progress of a game quit easily. While no team should rely on any single focus of its play to carry it, having a strong presence in the crease can have a trickle-down effect on a squad more easily and dramatically than most other elements of a team.

harding played tech this past weekend and their goalie put up around 30 saves on us. It was ridiculous! It was a great game. One of their mids went down; hope he is recovering well.
