While I'd agree that Harrison is the likely favorite, does anyone remember a year where the competition is more open?

Here is my list:
1.Harrison-hopkins
2.Matt Russel-Navy
3.Kyle Barrie-Hopkins
4.Brodie Merrill-GU
5.Walters-Maryland

One of my other favorites would be Ian Dingman if he was elgible to play this year.

Watch out for UVA. . . this year they will return to the FF.

I could see either Matt Ward or Christmas as candidates.

Last year Christmas played injured all year, and I think he will have a great year. Returning to his Championship two years ago.

Matt Ward is a solid player that is Big and gives defenses problems.

Look for these two to be in the mix.

Kyle Harrison

Postby Troy Hood on Tue Feb 15, 2005 1:20 am

I hate to sound like a broken record, but, I have to go wtih Kyle Harrison as my pre-season pick as well. I thought Ian Dingman might show for that award as well. However, with him being dismissed from Navy, that point is rendered moot.

Matt Russell is a sentimental favorite. Jed Prosner and Joe Walters also deserve consideration, but, they'd have to have huge years to eclipse what Harrison does on the field at both ends.

Brodie Merrill was also mentioned. I'd love to see a defensive player win it. But, I just don't see that happening yet. When Powell wasn't winning it before, Chris Rotelli's all-around play won him the award.

ditto Troy-I like Brodie, but I can't see a someone with a long stick winning it. I like him though.

If I had one vote It would go to Chris Cara from bucknell. He is the most underrated player in the game today. He was #1 in points per game, beating the great mike powell. All Cara got last year was honorable mention. That is just rediculous

Brodey merril came up with 11 ground balls, 4 takeaways and an assist in his first game against maryland. Not a bad first game for the all-american. I am all for a d-pole winning the tewarton, but I doubt if it will happen. With numbers like this he has to get a serious look.

not if his team keeps getting drubbed like they did against maryland. they gave up a ton of goals for how much press their defense got pre-season.

This weekend, we will see how Joe Walters (national player of the year candidate from what I read from the Maryland Terps press) and Dankowski of Duke will do. I know Dankowski is not there yet, but I know he will in a year or so.

I will still go with Kyle Harrison, though. He has that incredible speed from what I have seen him the past two years.

Harrison is the son of one of the Ten Bears. He was the young man featured as part of the nice story on SportsCenter by Jeremy Schapp about the Morgan State team.

They showed highlights of Harrison at Hopkins, and how he represents what all those guys played for back Morgan State.

I wonder if Jeremy Schapp is the son of Dick Schapp. I had to ask because that last name sounds familiar.
