Univ of South Carolina to Add WLax as Varsity Sport

"The University of South Carolina announced plans Tuesday to add women's lacrosse to its varsity sports roster, bringing the number of varsity sports offered at the school to 21.

The Gamecocks expect to begin competition in the spring of 2009 at the earliest, according to a news release. A search for a head coach will begin in spring 2007.

"We considered several sports and women's lacrosse consistently came out on top in our list of criteria," athletic director Eric Hyman said."
