Anyone have any thoughts or comments about the game today? I personally thought it was real entertaining and it was good to see some older guys like Gait, Tavares, and Eliuk make some great plays to get the recognition that they deserve.

I am glad for the East All-Stars (I am partial to Rochester Knighthawks), and I was glad that it was Tavares who made that beautiful slip past Moss to score to win the game.

I agree that it was a fun-filled game, and the goalies on both teams were OUTSTANDING. I also commend the outstanding defense from the West and East All-Stars. Of course, it would have been nice to see Gary Gait get a goal just for sentimental reasons.

I am wondering what was the total attendance at the All-Star game in Calgary. When does the Nielsen ratings come up- Monday or Tuesday?

Finally, I may be out of the loop, but does Doug Shannhan (formerly of Hofstra) play only for MLL, not NLL? For some reason, his name came up while watching the All-Star game.

I attended the MN Swarm all-star game viewing party but much to the dismay of everybody in attendance including several swarm players the game WAS NOT AIRED in our market and we couldnt get it on any of the tv feeds. The free food and beer that were provided were very nice and the 8 or so swarm players were very friendly.... still wish we coulda seen the game though

I thought Mike Emerick was talking to Brian Shanahan about Brendan Shanahan (hockey player for the Redwings I believe) coming out and playing NLL. He did practice with a team and there were rumors flying around. I don't know the validity though.

It was Brendan Shanahan of the REd Wings they were talking about. Like many hockey players his real roots are in box.

What kind of padding do they give the goalies in the NLL? These guys looked like the Pillsbury Dough Boy crossed with sumo wrestlers! I'd like to see the pads they put on....would they be legal in the MDIA?

i hadn't seen a box game in about 5 years and i forgot how the goalies look like aliens. they make a lot "great plays" by just standing still.

Yeah, I loved how both goalies were able to stop shots by blocking with their padded arms.

I was out in Philly last year and actually go to strap on their backup goalies pads and take some shots. You barely feel a thing when a shot hits you. Of course, the first shot I took came right by my left and and I turned my hand to catch it out of instinct. The shot hit the palm of my hand, and as we all know with lacrosse gloves, there ain't no padding there. The goalie says to me, "Yeah, you only do that once", and he was right. For the rest of my practice the arm was rigid and the back of my hand was facing those shots.

While those goalies do wear a lot of pads, it is still so difficult to play that position. Your mobility is severly limited, and those pads are so heavy you get incredibly fatigued. After a half an hour in between the pipes taking shots, I was beat, and also soaked from sweat. I've talked to goalies who actually need to change their shoes between every period because their sweat has pooled in them so much.

Thanks for the replies and the catalog link! I think it would be funny for a field goalie to come out in those pads, and I also wonder how much you can push the envelope regarding legality. While the rules allow for chest protector, shoulder pads, arm pads and football pants, are these pads considered legal? Being a ref you would think I would know.
