With a Name like Posse, it would make it very easy for Vulgar Lacrosse fans to heckle my team.

They could call them the herd.

Because of my job I write a lot of these early in the morning, my last one at 230 am. So yeah Herd bad, I still like Stampede.

It seems like it's a trend now to name new sports teams as generic groups (Riptide, Machine, Outlaws...) so the Stampede makes decent sense. I highly doubt it will be something simple like the Texas Cardinals or something like that... simplistic animal mascots are not used for newer athletic teams anymore.

And lets be honest, all of the good Texas names are already taken (Cowboys, Red Raiders, Longhorns, Oilers- defunct).

There are a whole lot of Animal names that you can associate with Texas. When I think about texas I think Cowboys (taken), Deparados (taken Arena Football), Mevericks (another form of Cowboy, taken) Outlaws (Taken), Tornaodos (taken). There is not a lot to choose from.

I still like Stampede, or maybe the Herd.
