NFL Training Camps- Ever been to one?

Postby KnoxVegas on Tue Aug 01, 2006 10:44 am

So I just got back from Green Bay where I witnessed the happening that is the Packers training camp. It was 100-degrees each day and there were still 2,000 people there, ringing the chain link fence to watch the Packers practice. It was a sight to see and I really enjoyed being able to witness the tradition where by the neighbourhood children lend their bikes to the players to ride back to the lockeroom, while the kids trail behind holding the helmets.

Just curious anyone else has attended an NFL training camp.

I went to Eagles training camp a few years back while I was in summer school. It was really hot, kind of boring, and Koy Detmer was as bad in person as he was on tv.

Who said I was working? I just happened to be in Green Bay because it is that close to Moline. Ok, so I was working. I choose not to look at it as work rather I was doing research for my fantasy team. Next stop: River Falls, WI and the Kansas City Chiefs.

I spent 4 years as a sports producer at one of the stations in Denver and spent every summer up in Greeley, CO for Broncos camp. The Broncos have since moved their camp to their training facility just south of Denver.

What's that smell you ask? Greeley, CO.

I've been to practice at Valley Ranch before. I always envied St. Ed's when the Boys had camp there.

I just scored 2ea. row 30 field box 1st base tickets to Astros/Cards;
2ea Texans/Chiefs (preseason); 2ea Texans/Titans; 2ea Texans/Skins and yellow parking pass all for ......$150.00

Have been a lifelong Rangers/Cowboy fan but since the Boys signed TO, I'm out shopping. I'm Interleague dating a rabid Astros girl so baseball is going to be berry berry good to me come September. Now if I can just teach her to accept the loss like a Ranger everytime Lidge comes in, life would be perfect.

The Seahawks have their camp about 10 minutes from where I work. A few of us are going to try and make it out there later this week AFTER work...My terrible towel is still up in my office--I don't have the guts to bring it out when we go.

Nice perk. Remember to hook up your favorite USLIA.com webmaster, will ya?

I've been to the Dolphins and Falcons training camp before in years past. They aren't terribly exciting. But it is pretty cool to hang out with the players after practice.

I used to be Ryan Leaf's spiritual advisor, so naturally I've been to several for the San Diego Chargers and one for the Dallas Cowboys.

A good buddy of mine's Dad was roommates in college with Wayne Huizenga, owner of the Dolphins. He got to go down to a Monday night game in the owners box. Great pictures with Hootie, Burt Reynolds, etc.
Lots of stories from that trip!

So, I was at the KC Chiefs camp yesterday. River Falls, WI is idyllic and the Chiefs enjoy a great relationship with the people of the town.

Herm Edwards runs a rather loose camp compared to the Packers. Larry Johnson looks really good and Trent Green is a nice guy and I thanked him for being my FF QB the past two years.

The highlight of my visit was meeting Hall of Fame member Len Dawson. He is a legend and told me about being the first person elected to the Pro Football HOF from the county the HOF sits in. Pretty cool. Even cooler than that, he signs his name with the postscirpt "H.O.F."

So the fact that he became one of the biggest professional sports dissapointments in recent memory is your fault?

I've made it to the Vikings in Manakto MN (uggg!) a couple of times. Has been pretty anti-climatic, but I did see Brock Lesner not able to fit into his Jersey.
