I guess the impression I get (I may be severely wrong) from some people is that since an individual is a homosexual they are necessarily going to be attracted to all males, and that is simply preposterous. Perhaps it's the fact that I grew up in an area that is tolerant of all people no matter their creed, race, color, sexual orientation, etc. and I was taught as such to be accepting and be comfortable around individuals from all walks of life.

I don't think that someone thinks someone else is attracted to them, but instead its just that they are uncomfortable in that situation. I don't want women in my locker room watching me change. After a shower and back at home is fine though  You telling me my uncomfortable feelings are wrong isn't very tolerent now is it?

Since you are so tolerant of all people, you have never made a disparaging remark about a persons race, sex, sexual orientation, religion, etc. That is a big blanket statement there that you are tolerant of ALL people. Or are you just comfortable around people that you deem acceptable. Would you be accepting of someone who doesnt feel the same way as you about homosexuals?

So, is your first sentence a statement or a question? It appears to be a statement, and an unqualified one at that. As you will see, I have never claimed not to make a disparaging remark about a person. I see you subscribe to the Sean Hannity school of making up crap that doesn't exist. And, to answer your question/statement/stream of consciousness, I try to be accepting of all people, whether or not they agree with me. My roommate is my polar opposite politically speaking, but he is my best friend. So, to answer your rather ridiculous question, the answer is yes, I am comfortable around people, no matter what their views are. Do I agree with them? No. Do I accept their views? Yes. Let's just say I have been around a hell of a lot more unique individuals than anybody who lives in Provo, Utah.

You come in here and act all high and mighty saying that you are from this great place, and how enlightened you are. I haven't commented on this topic because I cant believe that it is news. But then you come out and say how great where you are from is. And you are right, people who live in Provo are so not unique. That right there shows what your stereotypes are. I am going to try and end this on a good note. I think it is great that you are accepting of others no matter what and that you are so tolerant. There are not enough people out there right now who are.

Ironic that in order for this topic to happen, everyone has to be tolerant of everyone else's agreeing/disagreeing opinion...on a topic that clearly people disagree with each other on. Logically speaking, shouldn't we all just agree to disagree and keep it somewhat polite?

Yet again, you have magically put words in my mouth that I did not utter. Did I say the place I was from is great? I was merely making a comment in passing, by stating that people in SF Bay Area are more accepting of lifestyles that are not considered the "norm" in the rest of the United States. Why do you feel the need to attack this statement?

You claim that this topic is not news and I would beg to differ. The fact that there are already three pages on this thread would seem to disprove this.

There was no implication of greatness. Shame on you for spinning it in such a manner. Where did I mention its greatness? Please show me the text. I said that I grew up in an area that is more tolerant than most areas in the United States. That is a fact which can be verified by legitimate sources. As far as my comment regarding Provo, it was over the line, but yet again, facts will prove that there is not much diversity there, thus it would be hard to prove that an acceptance of alternative lifestyles is the norm.

I lived in the Bay Area for awhile and they are about the same as every where else that I have lived. They are accepting of things that they understand but things that they do not understand are not as accepting. They accept things that are the norm in San Fran.
The reason that this topic is three pages long is because this topic got changed 2 pages ago into you attacking anyone with a different view than you. If you are so accepting, than realize that people are different than you and thier ideas are not neccisarily wrong.
The reason that I said that I cant believe this is news, is why in 2006 are we debating whether someone who has coached a team with integrity for so long can he not now perform his job and be successful. I just cant believe that this is news.

I am accepting, that is what you are failing to comprehend. I don't agree with some people's opinions, but I accept their opinions. Do you know the difference between accepting and agreeing?

After reading this, i am done with you. You have shown how completely ignorant you are and how pointless this debate has become. I bet the people of Utah County are much more tolerant than the people of the bay area. Why wouldnt they be? Nevermind, dont answer. this is stupid. Good luck to Kyle. I am sure that he will continue to be a great coach in the GRLC.

I don't want to speak for all of my teammates or everyone associated with the program, but what I was trying to say is that Coach Hawkin's sexual orientation had nothing to do with lacrosse and it was never an issue. I wasn't trying to say that I was surprised that he acted appropriately at all times, I was just stating that from a first hand experience that he did always act appropriately. It was a non issue for me personally when I played, and it would not be an issue for me if I was just joining the team now, but I could see how some former/current/future players might have an issue with this, and they shouldn't be condemned, the best solution would be to simply talk to Kyle and work through their issues. I think it would be terrible for a kid to not play lacrosse based solely on the coach's sexual orientation.

Wow.....
I can't believe how heated this got when I was out of town. I really was just trying to have a debate and discussion. I hope everyone understands that. I think most here do, I am not trying to alienate anyone. Quoting Porky's is a little comedy to try and keep people grounded and the subject a little lighter, rather than going at each other's throats. I wasn't using it as a viable source.

Attacking people because they have a different point of view is silly, and claiming other people are ignorant because they don't agree with you is silly as well.

I also feel I am very tolerant/accepting, I just don't really agree with you on some things, and believe there may be some things to discuss still.

As for not checking spellcheck, bah, it was Friday and I was running late and should have been working. That is a great way to win an argument, attack something that has nothing to do with the argument. Did you understand my points? Even though I didn't hit spellcheck I think it was pretty clear. I never really did see a counterpoint to the main issue. I just see you trying poorly to invalidate the point by attacking people.

I personally feel that in a rush to be PC and accepting, Some people ignore serious issues that arise sometimes. As well I also believe people can be ignorant and make issues out of things that shouldn't be.

Unless anyone feels like debating(point/counterpoint) then I am not going to get get into a back and forth. I'd actually love to hear Kyle's input and wish him nothing but the best throughout the year.
