Sleepers in the A & B divisions......
I know it is very early, but there hasn't been much discussion on here lately. Who does everyone feel will be the sleepers(dark horses) of the A & B divisions of the LSA this year?

Just a prediction, But I don't think UTA makes it to the playoffs this year. I hate to bash my own team like this, but it doesn't look good.
Possibly look for SFA to return to the Playoff scene.

My prediction is due more to the fact that UTA lacks leadership right now. 3 of the 4 captains from last years team graduated, both coaches are gone, and they didn't want me as the Coach (still looking for a coach I believe) while we made the playoffs last year half of the team gave up on the team. Leading up to our playoff game with Southwestern our practices had at most 11 people. While our focus and determination should have peaked at this time, most of the team could have cared less. It was the worst three weeks of my lacrosse playing career, and it really sucked being my last memory of Lacrosse at UTA. instead of looking back on the fun I had and the great teams we had, the great wins we had, the Championship we won, I get to look back on two embarrassing losses to Southwestern and not having enough guys to even have a practice.
Now I get the great pleasure of being an Assistant Coach at Colleyville Heritage High School and Playing Club Lacrosse. I just can't wait to create new lacrosse memories.
Heres hoping that this will make My former teammates at UTA read this and get Fired Up.

JW,
when you say both coaches are gone, does that mean you and Gary? it sounds like your former team has fallen into a pattern that many of the Div B teams go through about every 4 years or so. once a core group goes through the process of building and then graduates, the team falls into disrepair for a year or two until new leadership is formed. that is what happened at SFA last year, Nichols State over the past two, and many others in the past, atleast it seems. And it is frustrating as all heck to be sitting on the sidelines and seeing it happen. All the hard work down the freaking tubes. But teams always find a way to make it back. best of luck to you at Colleyville. and may SFA and UTA get back into the swing of things. Cheers

Well i understand what you are saying, but the Talent is there, but the dedication and desire are lacking. All-American and LSA 1st team attack John Staples is still there. Defensive leader and Captain Chris Hammernik is still there. The Talent is there.
What I mean is that Gary and Eric Dion are both gone (not because they wanted to be, but because they left due to actions by certain members of our team. I volunteered to coach, but was refused, and as far as I know they still need a coach.
I will be an Assitant at Colleyville coaching the Defense and Goalies. We are going to have an awesome year next year. I don't even know the kids or their ability, but i have a feeling.
Thanks for the well-wishes.

Didn't SMU lose 3-4 games by only 1-2 goals, and a win in any one of those games would have put them in the playoffs? I agree, they could be a strong team next spring.benji wrote:Keep on the lookout for SMU. I still don't understand why they scheduled Tech, UT and TAMU within a four-week period last year, but they did play all three teams very well.
By the way, I just noticed Benji's "President" title...Congratulations!

Loaded with Talent
What is really awesome to see is that the LSA is loaded with young talent in Div. A.
UT, Tech, TSU, SMU, Rice and A&M had tons of freshman and sophomores on their teams last year.
Strong OCC scheduling could make these teams hard to beat at the end of the season.
