So I have been working at Best Buy for way too long as some of you may know, and for the past year or so there has been a game that keeps getting brought up that seems to surprise me. Guitar hero seems to me like another version of the Dance Dance Revolution game (DDR) with a different controller. The twist though seems to be IT'S POPULAR! Apparently this game has swept through college dorms and grown in the underground like nobody's business.
While at work I have seen people of all ages, races, and SEXES play the heck out of this game. Getting to the point has anyone on this board been taken in by this game or had any thoughts on it?

I work with a bunch of really nerdy types here on campus (I'll admit, I'm included) and they all love it. I've never played it.

I own it, and it's alot of fun. Best when played with groups of friends when you can fight for high scores on certain songs. Some of the songs on higher difficulties can be insanely hard to play. But overall, good songs and a fun way to pretend to be able to play guitar. Plus, my girlfriend loves it, and she won't usually play anything but old Nintendo.

Here's a fun story by child-actor Wil Wheaton about the game:

yeah guitar hero is freakin sweet. i suck at it but some kids get waaay too good and its kinda scary, but a pretty fun game, many drinking games can be derived from it as well, you can figure that out on your own though

I just got it today and am addicted. It actually does teach some guitar skills too, like hammer ons and pull offs. Those take a little practice to get down well enough to actually use. The hardest song (that I would expect to be easier due to its placement) I have tried so far is Unsung on medium. Once you get to the bridge I lose. Nevermind, I just beat it.
