There are some TV shows that will come back and are safe such as 24, House, MD, etc.
Wonder what you think about NBC's Friday Night Lights TV series this fall? From what I've read, Peter Berg will be the executive producer of that show which would be set in present time.
Feel free to chiime in about Friday Night Lights or other TV shows that you have heard about and are anxious to check out some new shows, etc.

I was a big fan of the movie but I am skeptical of a TV show.

I agree with you 100% as I am not really sold on the idea of having this major screen movie becoming a small screen TV series. I can imagine the location would be generic; I am also wondering what plots and subplots that TV show would have. It is going to be interesting to see if that TV show would survive past 13 episodes. Not!

Peter Berg is the cousin of Buzz Bissinger, the author of Friday Night Lights.

The movie was great but failed me in two key areas-
#1- The book talks a lot more about the race issues in Odessa and other areas of West Texas. Booby Miles in the movie only gets forgotten because he cannot play football... in the book, he is forgotten because he cannot play football and because he is black. The movie should have touched on this...
#2- In the book (if I recall correctly), and in real life, Odessa Permian actually lost to Dallas Carter in the Semi-Finals and not by 1 point but by several. I assume Benson will dig up the correct score for me... that is, assuming I know what I am talking about.
*note- I do give props to Tim McGraw. He plays a washed up drunk very well.

Both your problems can be summed up because it was a movie. They aren't going to touch the race issue that much if they are trying to make a friendly family-like movie that is going to make money. They touched the race issue briefly in moments (i.e. selecting of the refs for the Championship game). They did lose to Carter in the semis. They also beat Plano in the game beforehand I believe but my high school got no love in the movie [insert fake anger]. But since it is a movie they made it all dramatic with the play coming up short in the championship game.

I have that book signed by Buzz Bissinger when I was living in Massachusetts. The psychiatrist that I was working with had a daughter who knew Buzz, so that was how I got that book signed.

I will admit to having never read Friday Night Lights. I also refuse to watch the movie. I experienced Friday Night football growing up. I want to keep my experiences to me, and I don't want them ruined by a book or movie.
Dallas Carter did beat Permian that year on a controversial call. Very few people know what happened to the players on the Carter team. It is a sad story.
Oh and to ruin the movie for all from the North Dallas area, please note that Berkner HS is in the movie. Yes, that is the Berkner that everyone used to beat badly.

Wiki - Friday Night Lights
That has some differences between the book and the movie and sheds some light on Carter.

Jesse Armistead was on that Carter team. I think most people recognize that name.
Many of the other players were scheduled to go D1. They had scholarships. If my memory serves me correct most of them were involved in a series of armed robberies. They ended up being found guilty and received extremely stiff penalties. I can't find the information to confirm it, but I am 90% sure that is what happened. I wish I could find something to confirm this. I will keep trying.

The shows I'm looking forward to seeing are:
NBC new shows:
Heroes
30 Rock
Twenty Good Years
Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip
NBC shows coming back:
The Office
My Name Is Earl
Scrubs
FOX:
Prison Break
Miscellaneous comedy show that will be cancelled after 3 episodes because it doesn't get "American Idol" like ratings.
Family Guy (even though it started to get old towards the end of this season)
ABC/CBS:
Don't watch either network, so I don't care what shows they have.
EDIT: Now that Benson mentioned it, I have actually watched a couple of episodes of "How I Met Your Mother", and he's absolutely correct, it is a really good show.
