I don't know that Coulter is affiliated with the "religious right". Of course, I'm not real sure who the religious right is. Is it anyone who is Christian and Republican? Can Catholic Republicans be in the religious right? Do you have to an evangelical? Do you have to believe in creationism? Can you be Jewish? They are religious aren't they and I'm sure there are some Jewish Republicans out there, Joe Leiberman comes to mind (j/k).

To say that the "religious right" is,

as fundamentally intolerant as any religious group around the globe

boggles my mind. I think there are some women in Afghanistan who would disagree...if they could, but you see they can't because they were stoned to death because of religious principles. Let's tone down the rhetoric a little.

Haha trust me when I say there are many people who are NOT liberal that would say similar things about GW... Doesn't take a Liberal to point that out, it's obvious enough.

Yes, very true, the religious right's actions in America are not on the same level as those of the Taliban, however "their" rhetoric is nothing short of reprehensible. Let's not kid ourselves here...you know very well who I am referring to. Pat Robertson, Jerry Falwell, Laura Schlessinger, and the like. Coulter says that what she writes is fundamentally based on her beliefs as a Christian. That is a direct quote from one of her interviews on Hannity and Colmes.

That's not necessarily true. When I hear "religious right" the term "ultraconservative" comes to mind. It has nothing to do with party, though quite a few of folks that fall in that category seem to be Republicans. That's probably the main source of that misconception. It takes all kinds to make a world, I just wish the polar ends were more tolerant of others views. The "My way or the highway" attitude gets on my nerves.

It's a pretty apt comparison, as Coulter shares many of the same beliefs as the Christian Right.

As to sohotrightnow's comment about the rhetoric being on the same level as the Taliban, I would tend to agree. However, don't forget history. We had a good deal of influence on how the Taliban came to power. We provided the Mujahadeen with a lot of money, training, and weapons less than two decades ago. We are culpable for our leaders short sightedness in backing Afganistan soley because they were fighting the Russians. The enemy of my enemy is not necessarily my friend.

It's dissapointing that someone who lost a friend in the WTC Attacks would say those things, but with Coulter, it's all about selling a few more books, respect for the dead be damned.
