Contrary to belief of many conservatives, California is not a state of "latte liberals."

I always thought that this blanket statement was a little ridiculous. The dynamic has changed slightly and since the Dem's have secured some large money donors. IE) Soros. These types of comments can hold a little water. I don't think that most Dem's would identify with that analogy. (I do enjoy a good coffee house drink though) The traditional Democratic constituents are blue collar workers and are still a strong base. IE) steel workers, UAW, sheet metal workers, etc......If you ever spent a few days on a construction site, I think you would agree that many wouldn't identify with "latte liberals".

Urban vs. Rural is an interesting phenomenon as well. It's kind of like which religion you were born into. You typically follow that path.

It's supposed to be Carlin & Coulter on the Tonight show this evening. This ought to be good.

Try reading Al Franken's book "Rush Limbaugh is a Big Fat Idiot." That book is filled with hate and anger. . .

I have no problem with Wierd Al writing books like this. I actually think they are funny at times. . .but to suggest that right-wingers are hateful and racist yet liberals only write books that are witty and truthful is another ridiculous generalization. . .

Try reading "Right Turns" by Michael Medved. . .he paints a much better picture of what it means to be a conservative. You won't find any hate or anger in that one. . .

As Thomas Jefferson once said, the proper response to speech you don't like is better speech (or something like that).

And in that vein, I offer the musings of Henry Rollins....

Better? I listened to it, Rob. Frankly, it sounded rather Coulteresque, but with obscenities added.

GreyBear:

Fair point - I'll agree and concede it's not an incisive point by point academic rebuttle of Ms. Coulter's thesis as Jefferson would suggest. It was late and I was laughing too hard. I'll save that type of response for others.

But I still found it funny. And I think that's what she might be most afraid of - not that people disagre with her, but that when her beliefs are held up to reason, that one just laughs at them, and thus, her.

And following that thought - the image of her as Rollins' dutiful geisha-like wife (which is what she implies is the role that women should play in life via her criticism of those who would speak out in favor of fair and balanced treatment for women ) was an awesome "turnabout is fair play" moment.

I watched Leno last night (wow he ain't funny) in hopes of a Carlin/Coulter debate, or at least a few barbs thrown back and forth, and unfortunately they remained civil to one another. Carlin sat there and you could see him biting his lip, but to his credit he didn't say anything. At the end of the interview, as the camera panned out, I swear Carlin's head was about to explode.

First off, yes, Leno is not funny at all. I was very disappointed there wasnt any debate between Carlin and Satan, er, Coulter last night. The only reason I watched was because the ad's touted some sort of confrontation, I mean who doesn't want to see two polar opposites go at it.
The only interaction between them were bad jokes on Coulter's behalf about Carlin being a liberal (which he isn't).

Carlin's bit was awesome, though. Totally Carlin and totally hilarious.

What is Carlin if not a liberal? I love his comedy but he has always struck me as one who drives in the left lane.

He's definitely a leftist (at least left leaning). He even made a joke about having to move to the right to let Coulter sit down.

I find it amusing that people love to equate personalities of today with Hitler and Stalin. The Daily Show did a story a year ago on how stupid it is to call each other Hitler.
Do you really think that Coulter is similar to a communist dictator who killed over 10 million of his own people, and was one of the three worst people to live in the past century. I think you are minimizing the horror that was Stalin when you equate a mere political media-whore with him.

First, how did you determine Carlin was not a liberal? He called GW "Dumbo" and "Goofy" last night.

Second, regarding Coulter. She mentioned the that the "church" of liberalism is based on one that does not tolerate alternative viewpoints, i.e. believing in God is bad, being anti-abortion is wrong, etc. and I had to convulge in hysterics. Tolerance? The religious right, i.e. the philosophy she adheres to, in this country is as fundamentally intolerant as any religious group around the globe. Shocking, simply shocking.
