Lots of Croatian refugees fled to Australia throughout history. there are many players of Croatian descent on the Australian roster for the World Cup. In fact, some of the players qualify to play for either Australia or Croatia because of their ancestry (even though you have to choose).


So is every country a close relative of the US then?

Well, jessexy is stating that Australia and Croatia are close relatives because people from Croatia fled to Australia throughout history. In turn, a lot of people from a lot of countries flee to the US, so are they close relatives as well? Is Brazil a close relative of the US? My point was that it didn't make a lot of sense to say Croatia and Australia are close relatives by the sheer fact that some people fled from one country to another. Now, since there are some players from Croatia on Australia it makes sense, but I don't see how it can be called "close relative". I can't believe I had to explain all this.

Group C-Holland and Ivory Coast
Argentina disappoints. they have the most firepower and experience, but too many individuals bring the team down. Holland brings a lot of fans over and the Orange overpower every team in the group. Ivory Coast rides the back of Drogba to the second round.

The mention of the Holland fans famously decked out in Orange is true as I recalled watching a segment from the Turin Olympics about the rabid fans from Holland going to any sporting event regardless of how major or minor the event is. During this time, we have to remember that the Orange would be referred to Holland, not Syracuse nor Burnt Orange of Texas or some kind of Orange from Tennessee (KnoxVegas, you can educate me on the type of Orange your fave college wears).

I went to World Cup 98 in France and was present at the world famous Yugoslavia (supposed to be the US if we had not lost to Iran) vs. Holland game in Toulose (sp). While waiting for a bus to attend the game, there were two Holland fans decked out in Orange waiting for a ride to the game. Guy #1 says something in Dutch to Guy #2, at which point, Guy #2 removes a can of spray point from his pocket and starts spray painting the other dude right in the face. The paint gets in the man's eyes and he screams in pain as he pumps his fists with delight. He wipes the paint from his red eyes and high fives his friend.

Holland = Crazy.

My wife was in France and Belgium during Euro-cup 2000, and now is a die-hard Orange fan. She can't stand any other sports, but for some reason she loves the Dutch. I think she is crazy, so i will agree that

My wife is of mostly Dutch and some Boehmian Czech, but I know she will not actually wear orange during the World Cup. Of course, she will smile whenever I may tell her that Holland won a game.

Just want to add that the Oranje lost to Germany in the 1974 World Cup Final on the German soil and again lost to Argentina in the 1978 World Cup Final on the Argentina soil. It will be interesting to see how the Dutch would do this time on the German soil.

To change the subject a little bit, there is another interesting aspect of the World Cup is the players' hair-do styles. It will be interesting to see if some of them may sport that kind of hair-do. Perhaps it would be the first time they just decide to have normal hair styles.

The Netherlands fans wear orange in honor of the House of Orange, the royals family. William of Orange might be one you remember from high school history class.

Germany had some nice goals. The first one was about as perfectly placed as it could be and the last one had some nasty spin to it.
