Breast Cancer - Help Save The Boobies

Postby cjwilhelmi on Thu Jun 01, 2006 10:28 pm

Good website about breast cancer and what you can do to help fight it. I have had my grandmother fight breast cancer and have seen the effects of it. I didn't not create the following website but fully support the author's mission in supporting research and finding a cure.

Includes a ton of informational links where you can learn more.

I personally would rather support an established organization such as the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation http://www.komen.org which has already raised millions of dollars to combat and find a cure for breast cancer, as opposed to an organization that hasn't even raised a single penny yet according to their own website! it is very hard for me to get behind an organization that doesn't even take breast cancer seriously enough to refrain from referring to a womans chest as "boobies". I was glad to see that at least they did have a link to the Susan G. Komen foundation on their site however.

The website came up two days ago and is starting to get some publicity.

That's a good point you made because it is easier for anyone to remember. A case in example is USLIA. It is easy to remember that than spelling it out the whole thing.

As I said, I'll stick with an established organization that has already raised millions for the cure and doesn't degrade women by referring to their chests as "boobies". Next thing you know we will have sites to help save the jugs, help save the hooters, (great wings by the way!) help save the winnebagos, help save the golden bozo's, etc. When will it stop for crying out loud, when will the madness stop?!?!?!

You are completely out of line with this. The website is there to help promote breast cancer research. Who cares what it is called, do your part - donate money to whatever charity you want or whatever it is called, no one cares. Everyone has at least a mother or a sister, aunt, grandmother, or even a wife. This is a real threat that endangers a lot of women in America.

I really dont care if you dont like the website name. The author is at least doing something. Not complaining about it on an internet message board.

I am not out of line in the least! To prove my point, why don't you go out tonight and ask as many females as you can if they would go out with you if you referred to their breasts as "boobies"?? While you are recovering from all the slaps in the face you will receive, I'm guessing you will see my point. You have a right to your opinion as well as the right to argue with me simply for the sake of arguing. I asked some people at the Komen foundation today about this site and they were pretty appalled and will be asking for the link to their site to be removed from a site referring to a womans chest as "boobies"! Point made, enough said, I wont respond to you again. Take care and I wish you the best in life as you continue to refer to a womans chest as "boobies" and think that is perfectly okay.

This argument is ridiculous. Donate where you donate, to whomever you wish, as long as you care enough to do so. Complaining about "boobies" on a lacrosse message board is sophomoric.

The fact of the matter is that the guy who started the website cared enough about his cause to do something, rather than just toss a $20 at a research foundation. I hope this guy draws in thousands for the cause.

I hope he draws in tens of thousands! However, at this point he hasn't drawn in a single penny and I believe that is because no one is taking him seriously as he himself makes it VERY clear by referring to a womans breasts as "boobies", that he doesn't take the plight of breast cancer seriously at all. A person like this doesn't instill confidence in those that might donate that he isn't just going to run off with any money he might receive. I know the Komen foundation will use my money wisely and not potentially for a keg party somewhere, so I will simply continue to donate to them instead!

If you look at the site, it says it's only like 3 days old, so maybe that's why no money has been raised.

As for not taking the plight of breast cancer seriously at all, I'd venture to say having a family member, as the author indicated, diagnosed with breast cancer is pretty serious. Maybe the site's method of raising money is more farcical than serious, but there are already plenty of serious sites out there. Also, planning to post the contributions seems like the person is trying to be honest about it.

Also, how do you know the owner is a man? Most of the women I've talked to have thought the site was pretty funny, or have been indifferent. They also don't find the word 'boobies' to be demeaning if it's not in a demeaning context.

All I will say is Don't can't take life too seriously... you'll never get out alive

Here is an informational article on the Susan G. Komen breast cancer foundation. I urge all of you to support this fine foundation that takes breast cancer seriously enough to not joke about it in ways such as referring to a womans breasts as "boobies"!!! As you will read, the foundation has been in existence for more than 20 years and raised more than 200 million dollars in an attempt to fight breast cancer and find a cure. This is NOT a guy selling t-shirts out of his garage for profit like this "save the boobies guy" and keeping in excess of 75% profit for himself! For example, his "boobies" t-shirts sell from between $17 & $23 and he is only donating a mere $5 from the sale of each shirt to fight breast cancer! At that rate, NO ONE would ever find a cure for anything! Please read the following article re: the Susan G. Komen breast cancer foundation and I am sure you will then have a very clear picture where your money will do the most good: actually fighting breast cancer, or sitting in some guys bank account!!!

$5 > $0, as I know most people (including myself) don't donate enough to charities.
