Perhaps, but I think it is safe to say that Mike Powell was pretty good and was deserving of the award despite the fact that Syracuse won the years he won the award.
Monica Lewinsky had more president in her than George Bush ever will.

Stryker - I'll politely disagree with you. Sean Morris is a better player IMHO than Ward. And I would have picked Walters before Ward before the championship weekend. And, again IMHO, there is no comparison between Harrison and Ward. Harrison does so much more to influence a game. I do agree that Ward is a tough guy and a classy athlete.
Danny - I agree Joe had a chance. But Walters' absolutely horrid performance in the Semi's automatically eliminates him.
UVA was very good this year. But I'll take last year's JHU team. And if Duke had not immolated itself this year, I'd have my doubts about UVA winning the title this year. I think Duke would have rolled...
But congratulations to Ward - a great honor to him.

Rob,
Your points are clear and hard to dispute. To be honest, I respect Kyle Harrison more as a player and I appreciate how important a role model he has the ability to be. But Ward is from my hometown. And Morris is sick, but was completely shut down when it mattered and that is very important to remember.

I respect the hometown argument! I've made it myself too many times!
But to continue the discussion.
IMHO - Morris being shut down in the final had more to do with UVA being able to d-up the other 5 with little help rather than an absense of talent - Morris was locked out continuously by one of the best athletes around. He simply didn't get to touch the ball. And this was exacerbated by the discrepency in possession time - Umass rushed, didn't do a good job of taking advantage of what the lock out does to a defense, and arguably might not have had the offensive talent to take advantage without Morris..
Ward can finish unbelievably well. What a shooter. I thought he did a better job of creating his own shot in the game v Syracuse than in the game v. Umass. But he is certainly a great player.
At this level and with these players, I think we're debating the amount of leprechauns that can dance on a pinhead when trying to pick the best. They are all outstanding.
