Yeah, Boortz is very credible. He called Cynthia McKinney a "ghetto slut" and that she looked like a "welfare drag queen", said that Columbine High should not have offered counseling after the shootings, and then offered this gem on Islam:

"There is no true God but God, and Muhammad is the messenger of God...Say that with conviction, folks, and the next thing you know, you're strapping on a suicide bomb."

It would have been an honor to have this guy speak at my commencement...not. I don't have time for racist morons.

"Looking like a welfare drag queen" is an attack on her appearance, not her character. Nice try.

Funny you don't mention his quote about Islam, the Columbine shootings, or any other of his ridiculous statements, including his prediction that Schwarzenegger would commute Tookie Williams sentence in December 2005, because if he didn't, "there will be riots in South Central Los Angeles and elsewhere." Boortz added, "there are a lot of aspiring rappers and NBA superstars who could really use a nice flat-screen television right now."

Let's be honest. Race has plenty to do with it.

"Ghetto" means black.

"Welfare queens driving Cadillacs" means black.

He would never call a white congresswoman a "ghetto slut".

We have our disagreements, we Americans. We contend regularly and enthusiastically over many questions: over the size and purposes of our government; over the social responsibilities we accept in accord with the dictates of our conscience and our faithfulness to the God we pray to; over our role in the world and how to defend our security interests and values in places where they are threatened. These are important questions; worth arguing about. We should contend over them with one another. It is more than appropriate, it is necessary that even in times of crisis, especially in times of crisis, we fight among ourselves for the things we believe in. It is not just our right, but our civic and moral obligation.

Oh, and to weigh in on Boortz, racism is born of fear and ignorance...the only feeling I have for him is pity.

Holy moly! Here is my favorite bit from teh Boortz speech:

"That bum sitting on a heating grate, smelling like a wharf rat? He's there by choice. He is there because of the sum total of the choices he has made in his life. This truism is absolutely the hardest thing for some people to accept, especially those who consider themselves to be victims of something or other - victims of discrimination, bad luck, the system, capitalism, whatever. After all, nobody really wants to accept the blame for his or her position in life. Not when it is so much easier to point and say, "Look! He did this to me!" than it is to look into a mirror and say, "You S.O.B.! You did this to me!""

WHAT???? Our socity is so shamed because it can't even provide for it's own people! You know how you judge success of a society? By the lifestyle of the lowest common denominator. This guy's a nut.

Also, Boortz's bit about the rich some very interesting food for thought. I do agree with him that the role of the wealthy is to provide, but at what cost? With outsourcing as rampant as it is, is the investment capital they provide worth the massive ecological and social footprint left behind?

Oh, and his whole bit about people on welfare not voting makes me want to vomit.

Once again, the tiny Galesburg, Ill., college has landed a blockbuster graduation speaker: Stephen Colbert. With the buzz from his now storied speech lampooning President George W. Bush at the White House Correspondents Dinner still in the air, Colbert has students and college officials wondering what "the word" will be from Colbert on Saturday - and whether he will speak as himself or as his TV persona.
