Google has a tradition of changing their logo to reflect "important" days. Apparently Memorial Day doesn’t make the cut.

They've never done one for Memorial day, Veteran's day, Christmas, Hanukkah, or Ramadan.

I guess to some -- Arthur Doyle's birthday is more important to recognize then Memorial Day.

It looks like Thanksgiving and July 4th are the only holidays that are pretty exclusive to the US that I can see. Everything else seems to be pretty international.

You should have gone to www.dogpile.com which combines google, yahoo search, msn search, & ask.com. They had their little doggie logo in front of the wall in Washington DC.

Well they found the time to celebrate the Chinese New Year, Korean Liberation Day, Canada Day, Bastille Day, Dragon Boat Festival, and several other holidays from other countries in years past.

Is it really that hard to display a simple US flag? (If I had an army of editors and graphic designers at my disposal, I think I could find the time....) Nah, the flag would probably offend someone. We couldn't have that.

They display the flag on July 4th.

They also US display a flag motif all year round here: http://www.google.com/unclesam

So, there goes the "they're scared of offending someone" argument.

My take is that they stick exclusively to celebrations or honoring famous individuals (Arthur Conan Doyle, Motzart, MLK). The national holidays they've featured like the 4th of July and Bastille Day are celebrated as days of independence.

Not once have they ever put up a logo for a somber day of rememberance.

But I hear the Kazahkstanis are upset that they didn't put up a logo memorializing the Tishnek massacre.
