High School scores and predictions for 5/15-5/19

Postby MNLaxFan14 on Sat May 13, 2006 11:21 am

Looks like a photo finish in the Classic Lake between 5 teams:

1. Edina 3-1
2. Armstrong 2-1
2. Minnetonka 2-1
4. Hopkins 2-2
4. Wayzata 2-2
6. Cooper 0-4

Edina: W-Minnetonka, L-Wayzata, W-Hopkins, Armstrong left
Armstrong: L-Minnetonka, W-Wayzata, W-Hopkins, Edina left
Hopkins: L-Edina, W-Wayzata, L-Armstrong, Minnetonka left
Minnetonka: L-Edina, W-Armstrong, Wayzata & Hopkins left
Wayzata: W-Edina, L-Hopkins, L-Armstrong, Minnetonka left

Any predictions on the finish from those of you who have seen these teams play?

One key game left...

Postby MNLaxFan14 on Wed May 17, 2006 10:49 pm

1. Edina 4-1
2. Wayzata 3-2
3. Armstrong 2-2
3. Minnetonka 2-2
3. Hopkins 2-2
6. Cooper 0-4

Edina defeats Armstrong and wins the Classic Lake. Wayzata defeats Minnetonka to stay in the race. 4 teams are fighting for the last two playoff spots and, assuming Armstrong will hold off Cooper tomorrow night, it will come down to the Hopkins/Minnetonka tilt on Friday.

If Minnetonka wins, it will go to a second tiebreaker because in head-to-head, Minnetonka beat Armstrong, Armstrong beat Wayzata and Wayzata beat Minnetonka. I think that tiebreaker is most goals scored against other Classic Lake teams (?).

If Hopkins wins, then Wayzata is out due to head-to-head tiebreaker and Armstrong and Hopkins get the final two spots.

If Cooper happens to upset Armstrong, then all my analyis is down the drain. Anyway, I think I'm the only one interested in this race...

TG 15 Mathomedi 2

TG came out ready to play and picked apart Mathomedi's defense. TG controlled every aspect of the game and Mathomedi could not stop them because of TGs ride and dominance in the faceoffs. Mathomedi's goalie did a great job keeping his head in the game even though he gave up twelve goals in the first half he made some great saves especially a few good off-hip saves. TG won the conference for the third straight year with a great win. TG is now playing up to their potential as they go into playoffs.

Eastview

Postby Hammer23 on Sat May 20, 2006 12:13 am

Final from Eastview tonight:

Eastview 8
Apple Valley 7

A hard faught game between the two rival teams earning Eastview thier first win against the Eagles and their first conference win. The beginning of the first quarter was a defensive struggle with both goalies making big saves but three goals scored in the last few minutes made the score 2-1 in favor of Eastview at the end of one. Niether team was able to get into a rythm and the half ended in a 3-3 tie. Apple Valley had several close chances but Lightning goaltender Travis Luce made countless stops on the doorstep to keep the Eagles' high powered attack in check for most of the game. With 5 minutes remaining Eastview had extended thier lead to 8-4 but the Eagles faught back to within one with only a minute and a half remaining. The Eastview defense again showed character and shut down the remaining Apple Valley offensive pushes and a huge save by Luce with only ten seconds remaining sealed the victory for Eastview. Key contributors for the Lightning offense were seniors Tim Rocklage with 3 goals and Joey Mesarchek with 2 goals. Outstanding defensive performances from senior Matt Zoe, senior Mark Danley, and freshman Matt Geurin kept the strong Apple Valley attack in check all game long.

Sorry for not making any of them recently as well, I haev been busy with the loss of a former Jefferson player two weeks ago and added another job this past week. I will have the last poll up later tonight or tomorrow (hopefully) and then we can have the pollsters send me a new poll before the tournament starts (this thursday, I think).
