8-7 Again!

The 2013 tournament returns to Greenville, SC this May.

8-7 Again!

Postby Bluevelvet on Sat May 13, 2006 10:24 pm

For the third year in a row, the final score of the championship game was 8-7.
Let's put to rest the "UCSB slowdown". CSU and Colorado, known as high scoring teams played an 8-7 game also.
At times, CU used the same zone that UCSB used last year at the end of the game, with the short sticks on the goal line and the long sticks up top. It worked well. CSU played a tough sliding man to man for the most part.
It appears that a possession offense and a very tough defense is the way to win a championship. The run and gun team can not dictate the pace of play.

Any one got the score for next year? 8-7? over-under 15?

The score only shows how well the offense and defense matches up. The number of shots would show if it was a run and gun or a slowdown.

I was there. It was not a run and gun game.

There were some unsettled goals, but not many, as you can tell from the final score. 8-7 for the third year in a row.

I guess we each have our own definition of slow down...

Kevin- I didn't see much difference in pace, shots etc. between UCSB v. Colorado, UCSB v. Sonoma and CSU v. Colorado. I can't find shots kept for any of the games but they do have saves. Saves plus goals should give shots on goal.
In UCSB v. Colorado, Colorado had 9 saves and UCSB 6. Thus UCSB must have had 14 shots on goal and Colorado had 12 shots on goal.
In the CU v. CSU game each tean had 6 saves thus CSU had 14 shots on goal and Colorado had 13 shots on goal.
In the 6-5 UCSB-Sonoma game each team had 9 saves for 15 and 14 shots on goal.
Unless one team had an incredibly bad shooting percentage it seems like all three of these games were similar at least in scoring and shots on goal. I saw all three games and would define all three games as similar in pace. I certainly did not think that any of the three was a run and gun game.
What are you trying to say? Which game did you think was run and gun? Which was a slow down? Why?

I was at the scorers tables. All shots were recorded regardless if they resulted in a save or a goal.
