Since no one had posted them yet, I just wanted to get the word out and say good job to the members of our conference to receive All-American honors.

Congratulations to:

Steve Carpenter, OSU, defense
Julian Coffman, UO, attack
Matt Connors, UO, midfield
Scott Miller, UO, midfield
Curtis Manning, SFU, (attack?)

Well done guys.

Thanks Mitch for the post. . .a few more specifics on the AA list for our A division. . .

Curtis Manning (SFU), Steve Carpenter (OSU), and Aaron Pascas (SFU) were all on the honorable mention list for All-America.

Scott Miller (UO) and Matt Connors (UO) were both 3rd team All-America.

Julian Coffman (UO) made the 2nd team All-America roster at attack.

Congratulations to all of the PNCLL A division All-Americans for 2006.

Regarding the B Division All-America rosters. . . I was told this morning that the list will be released "some time this week." That is all I know and I will certainly post the results as soon as they are made available to me.

Thanks for you patience.

Painfully. . .there is still no All-America list for the B division. Honestly, I have no idea what the holdup is - I was told weeks ago that the list would be available soon. . .so at this point I am as befuddled as the rest of you. I wish I had more information but I guess we all just need to "hurry up and wait" for a while longer.

For those of you that have been inquiring with me directly regarding the All-America list for the B division. . .it is my understanding that there was a major computer meltdown and the information has been inaccessible. . . and that some computer tech is currently trying to retrieve the information from the hard drive. . .

Long story short. . .we will hopefully have the results quickly, if the hard drive is salvaged. . .

That is all I know. I hope we can get you all the information soon.

Thanks for being patient.

The Div B list is out and I wanted to congratulate all the PNCLLers that made the cut.

1st Team
Ryan Frey, Defense, Montana
Jake Bagley, Midfield, Montana

2nd Team
Zander Ault, Attack, Montana
Aaron Hushagen, Midfield, PLU
Noah Symington, Goalie, WWU
Matt Weurfful, LSM, PLU

3rd Team
Townsend Hall, Attack, Montana
Kris Olsen, Attack, PLU

That's a pretty impressive list, in my opinion, and I'm getting really excited to see all these guys in action during the upcoming Victoria tournament and also in the coming spring season (for those who are still eligible). I also wanted to say a special congratulations to Ryan Frey, who has been my wing man for the past four years and has helped bring our program to where it is today...he will be missed. Again, congrats to everybody on a great season.

B A.A.s

Postby Dan Wishengrad on Mon Aug 14, 2006 12:38 pm

Kudos to the B Division A.A.s, great representation for the PNCLL!

This list clearly demonstrates the absolute necessity of getting out there and playing OOC games. You'll never get votes unless: 1) You play in the national tourney, and/or 2) You play significant out-of-conference games and get seen by the coaches who vote on the post season awards. Of course earning an MVP vote from your conference doesn't hurt either. Awards won by Kladis, Coffman, Tesar, Ernst, Pascas, Carpenter, Yuen, Cordova and others have surely factored into these guys earning A.A. awards the past few seasons.

In the A Division, playing at Nationals in 2002 earned the Huskies our first two All-Americans (Kevin Bass and Ian Fair, Honorable Mentions) ever. When Eric Weitz got a 2nd team A.A. nod in '05 it came after a four-year career which included Eric playing in a national tourney as well as OOC games against the likes of Colorado State (twice), Chico State (four times), Virginia Tech, Texas A&M, Cal-Poly, Minnesota-Duluth, Utah, Chapman, Cal, Rhode Island and others. Getting seen nationally allows your players to reap the spoils that come with victory, as Oregon and Simon Fraser have amply demonstrated. If you don't qualify for the tourney, you still get your players "seen" when, like PLU (UC Irvine tourney) and WWU (at Claremont), you get out on the road and play top-ranked opposition during the regular season. If nobody outside the PNCLL actually SEES your guys play lacrosse, it's almost impossible for them to get serious All-American consideration.

The moral to my little lesson is clear: If you want your own stars to have a shot at national recognition, schedule OOC games and get out on the road, against the best competition you possibly can play.

And NOW is the time to start arranging these games -- not after classes start for Fall semester.
