Why can’t people just congratulating those who were selected – there are a lot of great players from the different leagues who were not recognized – let these boys have their time in the sun without trying to put a negative spin on their selection.

No one is putting a negative spin on their selection. We are in fact simply pointing out those that were overlooked and comparing them and their stats to some who were selected in an attempt to understand the selection process of some players as opposed to others.

Discredit? If anything, I am acknowledging that they deserve more credit! Hays was a complete animal this year and deserved to be named first-team.

IF he has the qualifications?!?!?! He had 58 goals and 15 assists this season.

Curtis Manning of SFU who was named to the list only had 27 goals, less than half the goals Christians had. Manning also had 25 assists.[/b]

Nothing against Manning, but he was a midfield, not attack. Also, I believe that Christians has never got an All-American even thought he's been the leading scorer (goals) in the PNCLL for 3 years now! I Guess that 5.62 ppg just isn't good enough.

Exactly what is the selection process?

Hays was without a doubt the best defender that I saw all year. Better than Abate and Virden? In my opinion yes, and convincingly so. Other people may have seen it differently.

The great thing about being in America is that other people are entitled to their wrong opinions.

Im not sure what the selection process is but its quite obvious your team must make nationals to make first or second team with the only exception being the goalie from Utah. The third team only has 4 non tournament teams represented, while honorable mention is littered with non tourney teams and far fewer tournament teams. The obvious reason for this is because these teams get much more exposure and their players are seen by more voting members then the others. I'm afraid to say it but until our game are all televised (not sure if that'll ever happen) the selections will continue this way. It's far too difficult to compare players based solely on stats when they aren't playing similar competition.
On a side not this was by far the most level tournament in a while yet one of the big 4 still won. Hopefully next year the rest of us will get a shot at the title. Congratulations CSU I can hardly wait until next year.

Waterboy, I agree Hayes is very good player and rightfully deserves the honors he received. On the other hand your opinion is wrong and comments sound a bit bias. But it is a free country.

How is his opinion wrong? Hays was named defensive player of the year, thus was the best defender in the league, thus deserves first team over the other two defenders.

Did Jokisch not have a good year? I thought he was the best goalie in the country last year. Any reason why he is not on this list?

Re: Hayes, perhaps those outside the league viewed the others play as superior to his own? Maybe the general consensus outside the league was that Abate and Conklin-Moragne got jobbed in Player of the Year voting?
Wasn't the first time something of this sort happened and won't be the last.

My comment about "other people are entitled to their wrong opinions" was meant merely as sarcasm... I assure you I'm not that full of myself.

I'm sorry if I offended you or your son. I didn't mean to take anything away from their honors. My apologies Mr... Virden? Abate? Bershinky?

Flipping over Flip

Postby border7 on Mon May 15, 2006 6:01 pm

What about Flip Naumburg for Coach of the Year!! - He brought his team back from an adverse situation last year and took them all the way to the Championship with a win!!

His name was even left out of the program - maybe that is why he was overlooked?!!

:D Flip - you have my vote as COACH OF THE YEAR!!
or better yet "PIRATE OF THE YEAR"

I should probably stay out of the mix here because reactionaries are liable to accuse me of favoritism but since others noticed the Brandon Hays "discrepancy", I'm interested to know who votes for All-America.

This year in the WCLL, coaches ranked players from a list of coach-submitted nominees. Coaches were not allowed to rank their own players so the final ranking were established by votes from coaches unaffiliated with the players. The offensive & defensive player of the year category was a write in vote.

How are All-Americas selected?

For the record, I'm sure that all the players on the lists are deserving of recognition as are many not on the lists. So, congratulations to everyone.
