St. Thomas falls to St. Johns
Looks like it was a pretty tight game between the two teams. 8-7 final. Congrats to both teams for making it this far.

I would not say patting on the back as much as I would say being proud of an unparalled accomplishment and all of the people that made that accomplishment happen over the years.
I could not be more proud of everyone, regardless of the outcome tomorrow.

i'm very proud of what the johnnies have done as well. i think it's phenomanal. there just always seem to be an abundance of horn tooting by st. johns alums and players...

if Point made it to the championships in 3 years, would you be proud and want to show your support for your alma mater?

I will be the first to say that I spread the word about St. John's when I can because honestly, 5 years ago, I couldn't pay people to care about us. I really am astounded at how full circle the program has come... so if I ever pat the program on the butt too much, then so be it.
I think most of the horn tooting comes from alumni. Seems like the current players don't like to associate with us old timers too much
Now that we're 22 and have real jobs, we're just not cool anymore...

Congrats to St. John's, it was fun to watch you guys in action today...we have had a similar turnaround out here in Montana and it has been pretty unbelievable at times to see how far a group of young men can come in such a short time. Good luck to you guys tomorrow in the championship, but more importantly...congrats on turning your program into something to be proud of. To me, this is the most important thing you will take away from your college career...nice work.

I for one always enjoy your posts Mr. Genck.
What's funny is that I didn't know until reading the story about the Finals that Mark Hellenack was now coaching the Johnnies. Congratulations Mark!
When I first met him back in '96 he was the most active lacrosse evangelist I had ever met, and he had managed to make developing youth programs his full-time job. Even back then he was putting together teams to go out to Vail and such places. I always admired his dedication to the sport.
I wonder if any of the current players in the UMLL came out of his pioneering programs? I often felt he should get an article in Lacrosse magazine, because he has been one of the biggest (and I'm not only talking waistline ) reasons for the growth of lacrosse in Minnesota.
Congrats again Mark on taking your team to the National Championship!

Credit Mark Hellenack for really believing in us at St. John's when he got on board. A lot of people looked at us like we were crazy but Mark always respected us and the program. We'd say, "Coach Hellenack, we want to win the national championship" and he'd say, "Well, okay... here's what we need to do..."
There are not enough great coaches and people like him around...
