DAY 2 -- MDIA Championships - Quarterfinals - Div B Begins
Didn't Oregon really make a name for themselves in the consolation round last year? If im not mistaken they played BYU to overtime in a great game.

I believe that they had already made a name for themselves by advancing to the 2nd round in 2004 & 2005.

I thought I remembered the biggest buzz being about the game vs. BYU. But since I didnt even hear about the board until partway into the 2005 season, you would probably know better than me.

Yes, there was a very long thread about that last year. The argument had to do with a lot of the same things that are being pointed out here regarding the meaning of that consolation victory. If you want to revisit that, here it is. http://forums.uslia.com/viewtopic.php?t=1851
There are a number of people on both sides of the fence on this topic. All I can say is that I have personally witnessed games at 4 separate national tourneys and I personally never saw a consolation game that a team played its starters and top people in the same way that they would have in a regular season or winners bracket tourney game. Draw your own conclusions.

Go home if it doesn't matter and let the kids play...
Here is my two cents...
If the games don't matter then why even show up and play. I've witnessed many constolation games which have been played with as much heart and energy as a regular season game. If the teams don't care, then why do they celebrate goals, cheer oneanother on and play tough throughout the whole game. Sure some teams could care less when it comes to playing out the constolation bracket but so be it. Everyone goes to the national tournament to play lacrosse and why not get the most out of your expirience.
FYI... Noonan and Romanichuck(sp) stayed in the whole game other than regular subsitutions. Oregon had thier starters in when the game was on the line... If it doesn't matter then sure let the back up all play and learn from thier expirience...

yah, i'll agree with riss. both UMD goalie's see considerable action all year. if i'm not mistaken, most of the time it's a half and half situation? regardless, it's true, no one likes to lose, so it's not the effort that's going down, it's the freeness of substitution that's going up

Would it be possible to get the day's schedule up on the tourney update page? Its getting kinda tiring to hop back to this thread just to see what time certain games start. Just think it would be easier that way. Other than that, keep up the good work.

It seems like the only game updating right now is Michigan/BYU. Are the other fields having connection problems?

Now the only game not updating is Augustana/Eckerd. Does anyone have any word on what's happening there?

Great win for the Cougars! Only 4 goals in the second half by Michigan(at least 2 against BYU's backup)...that's a solid defensive effort. Michigan seems to have the same problem with BYU that BYU has with CU, just can't seem to get by them. Good luck on Friday to the Cougars, beat CSU!
If you ever fall off the Sears Tower, just go real limp, because maybe you'll look like a dummy and people will try to catch you because, hey, free dummy.

Boy, the refs are sure earning their pay in the Cal Poly v. CU game. 20 penalties called already and the game is not over yet.
