After you post your picks the next page says that he will be in Blaine updating all the results...he'll be a little lonely.
(But at least he can enjoy the lovely weather)
That's what PM's are for Burt.

Not as much fun though.

First of all, thanks for doing this pool. I love getting my high school players involved in gambling at a young age.

Second, there doesn't need to be a prize. This is about braggin'.

You can also score the thing using para-mutual scoring. It works like this:

Let's say you have 20 people in the pool.

FSU plays BYU

5 people pick FSU
15 people pick BYU

If FSU wins, 5 people get 15 points.
If BYU wins, 15 people get 5 points.

Every correct winner you pick, you get one point for each person that had a wrong pick in that spot of the bracket. So in the later rounds, there can be more than one WRONG pick, but only one right one.

Basically, it says the more unpopular your pick, the more points you get. That seriously encourages picking true upsets. It also means that an "upset" is based on popular opinion of the prognosticators, not the pollsters.

I guess if you guys are writing the code yourself, you could use this system. I don't care how you score it, it's cool!

I was going to suggest super ultra mega para mutual symbiotic scoring.

If I get one right, I get 20 points, and if someone else gets one right, I get 10 points. Everyone else gets one point for their correct picks.

Trust me... I don't think it speaks to either my knowledge of the game or my "American ambition" that I can't win a game that I not only make the rules for, but am also the sole scorekeeper.

Waterboy, you just made my day. Andy: how's the division B bracket coming along?

I have just finished my code review and have whittled the initial program down to 3951 lines of code and am beginning to convert it to a Div B version, it's a tall order, but I hope to get it done before Cinco de Mayo is over.

You have to watch out for those evil genius types, Brandon. They lull you into complacency then POW! They jimmy the point spread and take over the world!!

So, Andy, how many have signed up so far for the challenge??

No kidding...I'm afraid of all the stuff Andy just told me. I'm very glad he is putting this all together so I don't need to understand it. I'll just fill it out and not worry about how it's getting done. Thank you Andy for all of your hard work in making this happen.

To date we have 125 entries in Div A.

Division B Bracket Challenge is now Open

I've only been able to complete (hopefully) the registration process so far for Div B, so double check your picks before submitting, just in case I don't get back to coding the pick editing feature for a day or two.

Again, you might need to hit refresh to see the latest page with Div B links.

Hey Andy - any chance of having a Div A winner, Div B winner and a combined winner?

Sure, great idea, but unless Sonny opens up his vault again, I haven't heard of anyone offering up any prizes other than bragging rights.

Everyone, you won't have to worry about CJ, I've seen his picks. :?

Burt, if that's the best you can come up with in the 4087 lines of code it took to create this FREE feature, yeah, I win!

Aw, Coach Sharp, I wasn't trying to pick on you. I just saw the Blaine reference after I did my picks, and after all the controversy over sites and weather, just did a little post.
On behalf of the entire USLIA community, you have our heartfelt thanks for putting the challenge (both A&B) together. Being in charge of assorted pools at my office, I know it is a lot of work. Good luck in Plano!
