It was wierd watching the Colbert Report and watching his Press Secretary audition tape on tv at the same time I am watching it online.

Now I may sound like a complete moron, but I watch The Daily Show and The Colbert Report almost every night, and I still can't tell if Colbert is really conservative or really sarcastic. When I heard he was speaking at the dinner, I assumed he really was conservative, but now that I've seen it, I'm not so sure.

An interview with the man, the myth, the living legend. This should answer some of the questions above.

Thanks Will... two quotes seem to almost answer my questions:

Asked whether the character he plays is smart, proud or stupid, Colbert says, "I think of him as a well-intentioned, poorly informed, high-status idiot."

Meantime, insincerity is paying big dividends and playing to more than a million people a night.

"Is there any possibility of the danger of you starting to believe yourself?" Safer asked.

"I hope so," Colbert replied. "I think that's the only hope that I'll actually do this job right — if I begin to believe my own line of crap."

One thing I am sure of, though, is that I was very happy at the way he ripped Bush at the dinner.

Alright I had to watch it before I commented on it. At first I thought it was too good to be true, but I now realize that whatever idiot was in charge of the White House Corespondents Dinner was stupid enough to ask Stephen Colbert to speak. Pretty poor choice I must say, and I'm glad the Colbert seized the moment as he did. I thought he was funny. I'm still at a loss for words that this was directly to the president's face, but more power to him.

Did anybody catch Frank Caliendo at the Radio and Television Correspondents Dinner? Hilarious! His impression of Bush is incredible!

This is one of our nations finest traditions, the night were the press sits down and shuts up for a couple of hours to be honored by the white house (personally I think its an excuse for another party....) I'm looking for the list of guest comedians from the past years currently and will add them unless someone beats me to it...

That was awesome, too bad Scalia was the only one in the room willing to laugh at himself.

Still think the Hindenburg line was the best.
