New LSA Championship Weekend Thread

Please discuss the action on the FIELD from this weekend in this thread.

Great! Can we please stick to objective reporting on LSA Championships? The last thread was a joke, I got ZERO info. about what in the world happenend in the game...
I have pieced together a rough outline of what I believe happened, please correct me if I am wrong. I was not there!

In the 1st quarter Tech came out blazin' and at the end of the first Tech led by 5-1 (i think). Tech continued to roll early, and in the 2nd period Tech led 10-4, shortly before halftime Texas scored to make it 10-5 Tech.
In the 3rd quarter my details get hazy, It seems Texas's d-fense showed up and withstood several Tech surges, I have heard G. Cox made several outstanding saves in the 3rd quarter which allowed UT to crawl back into the game and make it 10-7 Tech at the end of the 3rd period.
Now, 4th quarter ( I know nothing, someone who was there please chime in)

you're pretty spot on through the third.

tech came out on fire, went up 3 goals before we (Texas) were able to put any in the net. They were moving their offense very well and kept possession through the first almost exclusively.

the second was the same story, with tech controlling, though not as well as in the first, and keeping their offense going. Our defense struggled mainly from the midfield, and we left G-Cox out to dry quite a few times. we trailed 10-4 with :58 left in the second, but Zissman put one in the net off of the face and following possession.

We came out fired up for the third, which had the least action of any of the quarter in the game. G-Cox stepped up and had some rediculous saves, and our defense was super aggressive, taking the ball back numerous times. We put in two more, and went into the 4th down 3, but carrying momentum.

The 4th was pretty wild, as we came out looking like a totally different team. tech had a few really solid possessions, but again, our goalie played insanely well. Goal by goal we picked at the lead, and won quite a few key faces through the fourth. twice we got possession back off of a lost face before tech was able to get it into the box. Turog (sp?) is a very good face man, probably best in the league, so one of our keys was limiting possession off of faces and keeping control.

The final goals: I forget the exact order, but of our final 4 goals, 2 were in transition, one was off of a midi-sweep over the top, and the other, which gave us the first lead of the game, came when our attackman Evans Swann followed a save by tech's goalie, and flipped one in when he went to his knees for the ball. They key to the whole game was the intensity we came with as a team, playing with a leave-it-on-the-field attitude, and our defense's unwillingness to give up. tech's a very good team in every facet, and they deserve credit.

How about some words on the B Division Championships. Southwestern seemed to handle St. Eds in the finals judging by the score. Was this game closer than the score shows?

I was not at the game last weekend, but it is interesting to take note of their two games:

Regular season: Southwestern 8 St. Edwards 6

LSA Div. B Championship: Southwestern 10 St. Edwards 5

Last year, Southwestern defeated UTA in the LSA Div. B title, 10-8.

I agree that the focus tends to be alot on the Div. A teams, but we do have several outstanding Div. B teams in LSA.

Congrats to the HORNS!!! I knew Texas had it in them to fight back and make it two Championships in three years!! Good luck in Plano!

Just to expand on what ppl have already said. First of all I think the first two quarters went exactly like everyone has said. There were a few notes they left out for the second half (IMO). First of all one of the big things that changed in the third was the faceoffs. Turok (17) was still consitently winning the faceoff, but UT would either be able to get to the ball first, or more commonly would be able to get the ball back on the ground while we (Tech) were trying to move it into the box. UT was all over the ground balls. Personally I think this is one of the main things that allowed them to go ahead. The Tech D played strong throughout the whole game, but the shear number of times that UT had the ball took its toll. Zach played great in cage all day, but there were quite a few goals where Zach would make a great save, and then a UT player would fly in a clean up the trash. I think if Tech had been able to put in a goal at any time in the second half it would have jump started the team, but the Tech offense went cold in the second half. Its hard for me to say wether that is from defense changes or if they just came out flat. It could be both.

Congrats to UT and I hope they can upset a few teams for the LSA.

are you kidding me?? i gave you gold in the last thread!! gold!!

but kroviak was a little off. evans garbage goal (only referring to the type of course) was the 9th, the 10th he got on a fast break pass from e.z. literally ten seconds later and the 11th (game winner) was brandewie.

unfortunately, no. It was close for the first four goals 2-2 but southwest just pretty much out ran seu and seu missed what would have been some clutch feeds on the crease, and didn't get very many shots on cage whereas southwestern put a lot of those crease plays away.

Just curious, did the LSA Championships have Tourney MVP Honors, etc. for Div. A and B this past weekend?

If there were any, they weren't announced... at least to the best of my knowledge.
