Final Div. A Poll

Discuss the latest MCLA or NCAA Polls here.

I think the poll will be difficult enough just considering wins and losses- I don't think that pollsters would appreciate adding a future variable in their rankings for weather.

And as an aside...
Coming Soon...2006 MDIA Seedings. Please check back in 5 minutes.

This is killing me.

I've thought about that before. Could you imagine the uproar if I unveiled "portions" of the bracket with pauses inbetween?

CSU is playing Texas in the first round.

**DISCUSSION**
And after these commercial messages, we will unveil the next first round matchup.

:)

Ack. that would kill the server. It's ok now, but for a few minutes between 9:30 and the poll release it was pretty loaded down.... one at at time would kill it.

Looking at the way the polls shook out, the reason Utah didn't get a seed was that Michigan was not the AQ from CCLA. In the latest poll, Oakland is one spot BEHIND Utah. Utah would have had the next At Large bid had the conference tournaments gone as seeded.

Every year there are deserving teams that don't go to Nationals. Utah had a great season, and they are to be congratulated. They have set the bar for next season...hopefully, the '07 team will embrace the challenge.

USLIA Bracket

Postby bigfatty on Mon May 01, 2006 9:18 pm

Its very interesting that Arizona gets sent to Dallas as a #8 seed. Here are a couple of facts, that should get people talking:
1. Arizona finished second in there conference and gets the 8 seed, CU finishes second in their conference and gets the 3 seed.

2. Arizona beat #5 seed BYU earlier this season.

3. Arizona beat UCSB, who already beaten CU earlier in the season.

4. BYU lost to Santa Barbara, Cal Poly, Arizona, and Colorado twice. How are they the 5 seed?

5. UCSD is the #7 seed. Did they get this because they lost to Sonoma?

6. Can anyone tell me who Florida State beat to justify a #6 seed?

Maybe more that they didn't lose to anyone ranked below them and breezed through the SELC tournament (3rd best conference in terms of teams in the top 25 or total teams receiving votes)

I can't speak for all the items on your list but I can speak for item number 4. It's simple really:
BYU beat #1 CSU, then #4 Mich., then #4 FSU, then #3 SSU, and then #7 Oregon. Plus their losses to UCSB, Cal Poly, annd AZ were all in the first 2 weeks of the season. Since then, other than against CU, they have proven their ranking.
If you ever fall off the Sears Tower, just go real limp, because maybe you'll look like a dummy and people will try to catch you because, hey, free dummy.

That loss to Chapman really set you guys back.

We'll go down the list.

#1- CU gets second in a one goal game to the number one team. Arizona lost in a sloppy game by 4 to the #2 team. I think if Sonoma was playing the way they did against UCSD (I was at both), the differential would have been much larger.

#2- I watched the BYU game. I think it would be fair to say that neither team claim that game as being a "showcase of their ability." I've heard that game described as things varying from "sloppy" to "kickball" and "croquet."

#3- Yes, Arizona beat UCSB. I'm not claiming that Arizona is a bad team, I'm just picking apart your reasoning here. There are so many overlapping wins, that claiming that you're better than team C because you beat team B who beat C, really doesn't hold water. I could list examples, but I'll cede the benefit of the doubt that anyone who has followed the league this year can come up with a dozen on their own.

#4- BYU also beat #1 CSU (the only MDIA team to do so), Sonoma, Michigan, FSU, Oregon, and Utah.

#5- UCSD. Are you griping that they are ranked above you (Arizona)? I would think their ranking above you would be a result of
- head to head win against Arizona in regular season, in AZ
- losing to Sonoma in OT versus losing by 4
- beat UCSB twice, neither time at home, once at UCSB

#6- I think OAKS handled this one perfectly.

Overall, I was surprised to see that a lot of people were choosing Arizona over UCSD in their own rankings. I think there's certainly room for arguing either way, but that in the long run, it's not a huge deal, both are going to Plano. If anything, I would think UCSD would probably get the nod here. Claiming that Arizona deserves a higher ranking because they got second in the WCLL holds little water to me, especially because this year the seedings (not bashing the system, just the way it played out) were so one sided in the bracket. After the second round, between UCSD, UCSB and Sonoma (three of last year's final four) two would be eliminated. Those who claimed that whoever won that semi would win the tournament were correct.

I respect Arizona as a team, and I think they have their strong points as does every other team, but I also think they are probably right where they belong.

What about the fact that UCSD lost to lower ranked Arizona State and Div. B USD?

True- I never claimed that UCSD had no losses. If you're referring to the fact that it was a lower ranked team-

UCSD lost one game to Michigan by 5 points. Their other losses were all only by one point. Zona lost by 11 to Michigan, and by 8 to Chapman.

I think it's fair to say that Chapman and ASU are similar teams, and then UCSD lost by one where U of A lost by 8.

I think comparing USD to Utah is also not far off, and each of those is a one point loss.

Clearly there is wiggle room here, and no team is undefeated this year, (almost Illinois State) so there are going to be losses. I wasn't trying to laud UCSD with my post, I was responding to some belly-aching about Arizona not being ranked high enough.

I'm not trying to "belly-ache", the fact is, the Champ is still going to have to win four in a row, no matter who it is.
