Once again very deserving players are overlooked to let more teams be represented on the all league list. It's very disappointing that politics pick the all league players over actual performance and skill.

Well, I don't really want to get into naming all the names because I'm sure that everyone has someone that they feel should have been listed.

But when the second leading scorer for Sonoma (who has been either the first or second leading scorer the last three years, and who gets big points in big games like CSU, UCSB, UCSD, etc.) doesn't even get honorable mention, then you know something is wrong with the system.

First, congratulations to the players selected to be all stars this year. Without a doubt 2006 has been a great season. There is more parity in the league now, which I assume equates to making the selection process that much more difficult. I agree that players get "snubbed" every year, but unfortunately that is the nature of this sort of thing, however, I don’t see anything wrong with naming guys that you feel should be considered for the list. Why not just make a list of players you would add to the list, guys you think should be mentioned along with those fortunate enough to have been selected? Especially since there is no honorable mention category in the B division here are my choices:

B Division
Attack:
Sam Mittermiller-Claremont
Third leading most points in the league. He is a great finisher, and tenacious in the ride.
Andrew Grinberg-Occidental
Great playmaker, 4.42 pts/game
Brad Blakely-Pepperdine
Great scorer, he dodges, shoots, and finishes well.

Midfield:
Philip Trapp-Claremont
One of the most fluid players I've seen, and he is only a freshman. He will not be denied next year.
Drew Kaspers-Pepperdine
Plays with strength, and toughness, he is a good dodger, and has a great outside shot.

Face-off:
Matt Moone-Claremont
Best face-off guy in the country.

Defense:
Jason Trapp-Claremont
2005 First Team AA. His game has actually improved tremendously in '06, plus he leads a defense that only gives up only 5g/game.
Jesse Roberts-Occidental
Tough and aggressive, he consistently gives opposing attacks long days.
Mike Hoyt-Pepperdine
Big, physical guy with a great stick and good sense of the game.
Ashton Clarke-Claremont
Consistently dominates opposing attacks with physicality, strength, and great footwork.

Goal:
Jacob Manning-Occidental
Always keeps his team close by making huge saves in big games.

The list could go on…

I have competed with these players and watched them compete against other teams, and feel they earned the right to be mentioned along side with those players listed above. In my opinion there is no harm in acknowledging the guys who "we" think should have been chosen as long as we aren't bashing the guys that were selected. Politics or not, the WCLL has a great deal of talent, and some guys get overlooked, but forums like this one provide us with a platform from which we can speak out and praise those same guys.

Before this thread escalates any further, I wanted to clarify the selection process for each Division. They are essentially the same except for the number of players selected for each.

1. At the annual league meeting the number of All League Teams and players is decided. This was unchanged this year.
2. Next the method for determining who would be nominated is discussed. The membership felt that the system used during the last two years was exclusionary, using a committee selected by the league Vice-President, and instead chose to have all coaches nominate their own players for inclusion on the ballot.
3. Each coach in both Divisions was asked to nominate five (5) players from their team whom they felt deserved All League consideration. This was an arbitrary number selected by the league President and Vice President that would allow the coaches enough names for voting consideration but not be too over-bearing in the balloting and voting process. All coaches in the A Division nominated players for their teams. In the B Division, 6 of 10 teams submitted nominations. No requirements were given the coaches in terms of which positionsor how many at each position they could nominate.
4. After receipt of the nominations, a ballot was composed and sent to each coach who nominated players. Those who did not participate in the nomination process were not included and thus players from their respective teams were not considered for selection in 2006. Each coach was asked to select a given number of players for each position and asked to rank them in order from most talented to least talented for each respective position. They were not allowed to vote for players from their own teams. In the A Division, all but one team returned a completed ballot. In the B Division, only 3 of the 6 teams returned ballots.
5. After all ballots were received, the results were tabulated and the respective teams were selected based upon the total number of points each player received in the process.

Overall, fairly apolitical for those conspiracy theorists out there. Is the process flawless- No, but several coaches have already sent in proposals for consideration for next year.

For those players, family members, friends or interested observers, if you feel that a player who was deserving of recognition didn't receive such this season, instead of painting a wide brush of doubt on the process, you should probably start with the players coach to see how far they participated in the selection process that they agreed to in October, 2005.

Apparently, McDonald was not nominated. The limit is 5 nominees per team, not enough for a team like Sonoma. The 5 Sonoma St. players nominated were all elected either first or second team All WCLL, same with UCSB. I'm sure that those top players who are juniors will be nominated and elected next year

That thought was brought up at the WCLL meeting in October and we all agreed. However, our selections mimic the MDIA All American teams which does not have a d-middie specialist classification as of yet. They are discussing the issue at a national level, so hopefully we will add that specialist category for the 2007 season
