CCLA Tournament

Postby Zeuslax on Thu Apr 13, 2006 1:20 pm

Are all awards and trophies going to be given out on Sunday? I'm a little confused by this. On the cclax.org site is says following the A and B championship game. So I'm assuming that B awards will be on Saturday this year, and A will stay on Sunday. I may be incorrect, but I think it's typically on Sunday.

Ferris State edged by Grand Valley tonight by a single goal.

Does this mean calvin is in with the second seed????

Not necessarily, Calvin still has Hope on Saturday. It does mean Ferris is the #1 seed of the North and will play #2 South Carnegie Mellon. Dayton has secured the #1 South spot, even though they have yet to play Grove City.

UPDATED TOURNAMENT SCENARIOS

Postby John Paul on Wed Apr 19, 2006 3:44 pm

This is not as in-depth as it could be. I didn't go into tie breaker scenarios, and there is some question about how unplayed games are being handled.

A DIVISION

NORTH
Michigan: 4-0 (Michigan State 4/22)
Oakland: 3-1 (Central Michigan 4/22)
Michigan State: 3-1 (Michigan 4/22)
EMU, CMU and WMU are out. If Michigan beats MSU Saturday, and Oakland beats CMU, then seedings are 1 UM, 2 OU, 3 MSU. If MSU wins and Oakland wins, then three way tie that goes to tiebreakers. If MSU wins and Oakland loses, then seedings would be 1 MSU, 2 UM, 3 OU.

SOUTH
Indiana: 4-1 (Purdue 4/19)
Buffalo: 4-1 (Purdue reschedule is not going to happen)
Pittsburgh: 2-2 (West Virginia 4/21, Ball State 4/23)
Miami: 2-3 (waiting for results from Ball State 4/17)
West Virginia: 1-3 (Pittsburgh 4/21, Ball State 4/22)
Purdue is out because of failure to reschedule with Buffalo (that's the word I'm getting). Indiana and Buffalo are in, and if Purdue results are removed for the South, then Indiana is first seed and Buffalo is second based on head to head. Third spot would be between Pitt, Miami and WVU based on final games and tie breakers.

B DIVISION

NORTH
Ferris State: 4-1
Calvin: 2-2 (Hope 4/22)
Grand Valley: 2-2 (UM Dearborn 4/19)
UMD is out. Hope has a slim chance through tie-breakers if they beat Calvin and Grand Valley loses to UMD. FSU has clinched the 1st seed. 2nd seed comes down to final games. If Calvin beats Hope, Calvin is 2nd seed no matter what GVSU does because of head to head. If Calvin loses and Grand Valley wins, GVSU would be 2nd seed unless Hope could close the gap through tie breakers.

SOUTH
Dayton: 4-0 (Grove City 4/22)
Carnegie Mellon: 4-1
Finished. Dayton is first seed, no matter final game result because of head to head win over CMU. CMU is second seed. Taylor, IUP and Grove City are out.

Thanks John. I wish I had enough time on my hands to work out stuff like this :)

See you Saturday.

GVSU beat UMD 13-6. Long drive to UMD after a excellent but exhausting game against ferris.

Now it comes down to Calvin vs Hope to decide who gets the number 2 seed in the CCLA B North

Zeuslax has got to be feeling pretty good. The team he coached last year is facing the team he's coaching this year in the first round of the B's. Wonder who he'll root for?

It's great to see Ferris doing so well, and keeping the team moving forward. The truth is I couldn't be happier for them. However, you better believe I won't be routing for them on Friday.

from what i can tell this is the situation for the div A playoffs

in the north:
#1 Michigan
#2 Oakland
#3 Michigan St

in the south:
#1 Indiana
#2 Buffalo
#3 West Virgina if they beat Ball St. If not Pitt

the north is straightforward. south isn't as simple. if im right, Indiana gets the #1 because they beat Buffalo. West Virginia gets the #3 with a win because they beat Pitt.

Based on above:

In the semis, Michigan would play the winner of the MSU/Buffalo game
Indiana would play the winner of the Oakland game against either WV or Pitt.

I know on the ccla website, in the B division it says that the #1 seed North (Ferris) plays #2 South (Carnegie Mellon) in the 530 game on friday. is this going to stand considering carnegie mellon has the farther drive coming from Penn. as opposed to dayton???? or will these games be switched???? is there going to be a final schedule of the games soon???

speaking of game times. i was also wondering why the winner of the late game for the A quarters has the early game for semis the next day. seems like the winner late game friday should have the late game saturday, no??

Last I heard, the A semis have been flipped from the schedule shown on the CCLA site. South A1 at 1:00. North A1 at 3:30. Hopefully the change will be announced today.
