La Costa Canyon Goes East

From today's Union Tribune:

Mavericks to play top teams in East

LCC dominates Massachusetts squad

CARLSBAD – With a core group of 13 seniors, La Costa Canyon High coach Dallas Hartley decided to treat his lacrosse team to a change of scenery this year.

During spring break in April, the Mavericks will head to Baltimore and face three East Coast powerhouse teams. Hartley said he wanted to challenge the players who've been with him during his four years at LCC.

Archbishop Spaulding

Postby Bigdaddy11 on Thu Apr 13, 2006 10:27 am

According to web search I did this morning, LCC lost close one to Spaulding-4-3. Anyone have info on how games/trip are going. I would love to hear.

This is the rundown on Archbishop Spaulding. Spaulding lost to Georgetown Prep, LCC's next opponent, 17-3. I would guess that it is a very bad sign that LCC lost to Archbishop Spaulding. GT Prep and Boy's Latin are much better than Spaulding.

Tonight's game is certainly LCC's best chance to record a win on this road trip. Anne Arundel County is experiencing OK weather so the elements shouldn't be a factor. The Cavaliers haven't had a winning record since they moved up to the A Division from their 2002 MIAA B Conference championship season. This year they have decent defense and goaltending, but are having a heck of a time scoring goals. They're weak at midfield, especially in transition. Good luck to the Mavericks.

Two teams come out from New York's vaunted Section 8 to play St. Ignatius in S.F. next week. On 4/18, the Floral Park Knights play SI and on 4/21, the South Side Cyclones come to play them also.

Its clear youth lacrosse on the West coast still has a long ways to go, but its good to see that more and more West coast teams are hosting more East coast schools, and more trips are being scheduled back East every year. Its all part of the same step as MDIA turning NCAA if you ask me... When are we going to start to see DI, II, and III teams take on some MDIA competition? Sure there's the occasional NDNU, Whittier, or Colorado College matchup, but there's only one way to know where the MDIA really ranks among true national competition.

those losses don't look as bad when you look at the national rankings in lax power, Boys Latin at #1 and Georgetown Prep at #3

From what I heard, LCC could have beaten AS - they just came out flat and lagged and played too cautiously.

GP put up a ride that LCC couldn't break and dominated the faceoffs, which meant that the ball stayed in the LCC defensive area and the GP attack pumped in 9 goals before the starters got pulled in the middle of the second quarter.

BL came out 'flat', according to their fans, and LCC made a game of it until halftime. Then the Lakers stepped it up and lit up the scoreboard. LCC's players got winded (3 games in 4 days ain't easy) and BL can just throw line after line, each one as good as the last, at you.

LCC's LSM, Casey Higsden (sp?) impressed the Balmer fans, as did the classy performance displayed by the LCC team in the face of superior play.

Perhaps we are not as far away as everyone may think. St. Ignatius beat a highly respected NY team from Section 8, Floral Park, today by a score of 9-6.

How about those CATLAXers!!!

I know, I was the one who used it. Couldn't resist bringing it out of retirement one more time.
