Catlaxman,

It seems that you are the only one, or one of only few, who feels that Lax Power is way off base. I understand that you had a problem with the final rankings a few years back, but it seems that Lax Power has made the corrections needed to become more accurate. This is a similar formula to the BCS number used in Division I football, which is why it is so hard for me to understand why you think their system is way off base. With the BCS, you are talking about hundreds of millions of dollars at stake on college football bowl games. Why in the world would they have gone to this method (the math formula) if it is "not worth the paper it is written on."

All you have to do is look at the results it produces. I'm sorry, but Oakland is not anywhere near the #9 team, nor is VT #13 nor Oregon #14. Should I go on? Consistently coming up with the wrong answer is enough for me. How many times do they have to "cry wolf" before you realize that there's nothing there?

I admire the fact that you are a huge fan and that you have a definitive opinion. I would love to see your poll when you have the time to put it together. The Joker put together a poll with justification on every team, and I would love to see you do the same when you have the time. You have very strong opinions, and I believe that you are well respected on the boards, so I simply want to see where you stand with your own personal poll.

After looking at Lax Power it appears that there is a misunderstanding. Lax Power provides the following information:

Rank Poll Team Rating Rank W L T

8 7 Oregon 79.92 17 12- 4- 0
14 14 Virginia Tech 77.67 37 9- 3- 0
16 17 Oakland 77.36 13 9- 4- 0

And I will stand behind him on that, having seen it. His (and the rest of the message board pollers) are consistent polls that they base on research that they do. Each poll is amazingly consistent to every other poll, and is done independently before the issuance of the real poll.

There may be some people to criticize about "well I wish I could see a poll you put out," but the people who are message board pollers aren't them. I know for the most part, I give different posters different amounts of credibility when they write things on the board, and even when I disagree with them, I take what they say and really do consider their point of view. CATLAX is one of them. If you're going to pick someone to say "I'd like to see you do better," there are better targets.

I never mentioned that I would like to see him do better. I did mention that I admire the fact that he is a well educated fan. I was simply interested in seeing his poll, and it turns out that I agree with 99% of his poll.

I sure don't remember saying that.

No, I said that. I had them at #15 and the real poll had them at #20. As it turns out, the pollsters appear to have been right about that.
