BSC coach fired?

I heard that the BSC coach was fired. They have pulled his profile off of the website as well, so I am assuming it is true. Does anyone know what happend, or what is going on?

We are not permitted to comment negatively on opposing teams, players, coaches or officials. Since he is no longer affiliated, I can now voice my opinion. I know many programs in PCLL often face this problem with obtaining good committed coaches.

In 04’ I was able to coach for UConn as a student. However in 05’ we were forced by the University to find a coach which was neither a student nor grad-student in order to get funding from the University. Posting online, newspapers, and attending tournaments we spent the summer trying to find a replacement.

Our choice as everyone can see was a “little” disappointing and the team had to let him go. Unfortunately for Bridgewater they were not aware of the bad terms which we had to depart with him. The captains from last year pretty much ran the program inside and out, and I give them all the credit along with this years captains in obtaining the current coach.

It would be good if the teams of the PCLL could communicate more about how to find reliable coach. It is frustrating to see a once well organized team have their season ruined because of an unreliable coach. With the churn of Captains from year to year it is important teams (some of you new B teams ) who are pretty much student run teams to try and find someone who can coach for a long period of time. A good idea is to create some kind of guide to help people in successive years, <a guide> of what you need to do, from refs, to league due dates and how to handle school bureaucracy.

Not to talk garbage on student coaches, (I was once one), games were always better when you have someone with coaching experience, and has a long standing relationship with the school.

For those teams looking for a coach CHECK REFERENCES, and ask people who played for the coach or played against them. Don’t follow the mistakes we made last year, and the one it seems Bridgewater made this year.

I agree with this completely. I took some initiative this year and created the PCLL Team Handbook which had some of these items including conferrence and national deadlines and fine structure, instructions to input stats, change game time/day/location, a complete contact list, playoff information, and a team checklist. I think it would be especially helpful for the league to create a more comprehensive document for new teams as well.

If they do, I hope they come with their A game like they did vs. BC. That actually wasn't the blowout a lot of people thought it would be. Maybe resurrection of the BSC we all once knew?

Find a coach who is committed is hard and often half the battle like you said. The biggest thing that we have started working on to get CGA back on track is a positive hand off of the team. We don't have money to pay a coach, so we rely on people who work here, usually a graduate who is back as a teacher, we now have a binder that we started last year to pass on. This has already alleviated some issues. Consistency is one of the most important things in keeping a club running well.
I will say that UCONN is just about the same talent level as last year, probably a little better, but the way they ran themselves was so much different and their game plan was well set up. The coach has made a big difference, in getting them playing to their potential it seems. You see that all over in club sports.
I hope that Bridgewater can weather the storm and recover, because they have definitely always been one of the best run programs, and most hospitable since I have been involved in the league.
Good luck to them, as well as it is a tribute to the league to see everyone so concerned about another team and trying to chip in and save it. I know Greg did this last year with Central and it has gotten them going in the right direction.

New teams, regardless of how well-run they are and how much administrative support they have, need to be hand-held through the process. It is a huge task that I always took on every year with teams like New Haven, CCSU, Rochester, and SCSU (although we all know what happened there). I think teams with new coaches at schools where the coach has always had a big administrative role (like BSC this year) have the toughest situation of the other schools. That is why I always been a been proponent of having school staff (Rec Sports/Club Sports/etc) be involved. Look at New Hampshire. They have gone through three coaching changes in the past few years, but they have the most involved school administrator you could ask for in Denise Monahan since Gabe Valenzuela from URI when he was Commissioner.
