Same thing applies to UCSD if Arizona wins by one.

Also, Hack, I think that LMU is also still alive in the LA division. Assuming that UCLA loses to UCSB, it will come down to the UCLA v. LMU game for the 2nd spot.

for some reason, I had mentally figured that UCSD was in significantly more danger of not making playoffs. I guess it is because both of their conference games were so close that is going to keep them alive, since now the only way they don't make playoffs is if Arizona beats ASU by 1 and UCSD beats SDSU by nine or less (including loss to SDSU).

Bad Luck for UC Davis. Tonight is the biggest game of at least the last 7 years, at home, under the lights vs. Chico for a playoff spot AND it is pouring rain with flooding possible.

Bad Luck? Now we get an extra week of practice because the game is rescheduled for friday night under the lights for a playoff spot. The field is pretty muddy right now so I think it will be advantagous for us to get that week of practice on it. Expect a good game.

So ASU and Arizona both control their own destiny. Win and they are in.

And the only way UCSD doesn't make the playoffs is if Arizona wins by exactly one goal, correct?

Curious - When was the last time Arizona State beat Arizona? I honestly don't know.) I know Arizona State is improved. But haven't the LaxCats dominated that series for awhile (if memory serves)?

ASU beat them last year. Better check that memory.

Not exactly. Two things have to happen. Arizona has to beat ASU by 1 goal and then UCSD would be out if they do not beat SDSU by more than 10 goals.

UCSD is out only if Arizona beat ASU by one and UCSD does not beat SDSU by 11 or more.

ASU beat Arizona last year. this caused a 3 way tie in the WCLL south last year. ASU was the odd man out by virue of the goal differential tie breaker. Before that Arizona had dominated the series for 15 years.

They say that memory is the first thing to go. Sorry, I had forgotten about that one Sun Devils fans.

Good luck to U of A and ASU this weekend! Wish we had BYUtv for that one in Scottsdale! Maybe you guys could get some professional pictures for us from the game?

Incidentally, the one goal scenario in the AZ v. ASU game can either result in UCSD being out (beating SDSU by less than 10 goals) or winning the division (beating SDSU by more than 10 goals). It's the only way that UCSD can win the division. In every other scenario, they finish 2nd and the loser of ASU vs. AZ is out. Also, if they win by exactly 10 goals and the 1 goal scenario plays out, they finish in a 3 way tie and go to the 3 way coin flip.

so we could potentially have a UCSD vs. UCSB first round game,

and an LMU vs. ASU game to see who goes to the final 4. Interesting year.

ASU needs this one bad.

First, to make it to the playoffs for the first time I can remember in a long time.

Second, to help their chances of getting to Dallas. A W against UofA would help there case. Plus if they could go deep into the WCLL playoffs it would really put them in a good position.

GO ASU

This is the most likely scenario from a probability standpoint, which would mean one of these 2 teams will not make the final 4 of the WCLL playoffs. As a reward to the winner, they would likely get a semi-final game against Sonoma.

My understanding was that before we got to a coin flip, it would then be passed on to scoring differential in common opponents.

I'm not looking at the scores themselves, but I know all three teams have played Chapman, and I think LMU, as well as UCSB.

Chapman: UCSD +1, ASU +1, AZ -8

LMU: AZ +6, ASU +4, UCSD +14

UCSB: AZ +3, UCSD +1, ASU -3

It's interesting that the only way that UCSD can miss playoffs is for AZ to beat ASU by 1, but that's also the only way they can come in first place- and since the UCSD/ SDSU game is this friday (before the ASU/ AZ game), they will know that night whether they made playoffs (if score is more than 10 above SDSU, they're in). So what does UCSD want the most? Chance at first with home field, LA #2 with risk of not making playoffs? Safe second place to travel to LA #1?
