The final pieces of the B Division playoff puzzle will be solved. Although already eliminated from the playoffs, UPS can play the spoiler against cross-town rival PLU. WWU is at Whitman in a game which can clinch the B-North title for the Vikings, or throw the race into a three-way tie at 6-2 if the Missionaries prevail. Assuming the Lutes hold off the Loggers to finish 6-2, a Whitman win over Western Washington would give the B-North title (and first-round bye) to PLU -- by virtue of wins over both Whitman and WWU. Western Oregon can capture the #6 and final B Division playoff spot with a win over Linfield, while the Wildcats likewise advance to the post-season if they defeat the Wolves.

But the game of the week is in Griswold Stadium on Saturday, when the host Pioneers take on the Bearcats in an "escape the cellar" classic. Either Willamette or Lewis & Clark will notch that first win of the 2006 season, and gain at least a small measure of team pride and optimism for the future.

In the traditional Tacoma rivalry game today. . .score reported as PLU 13, UPS 10 in a very tightly contested game. PLU just couldn't pull away from a very game Logger squad today.

Anything can happen in a rivalry game, but I think my Lagers were a little bit tired of their lack of success lately, and just wanted it more. We came out flat, and PLU jumped on us, getting a large lead in the 1st, but we adjusted well and played to our strengths. I would be surprised if I didn't have one of the youngest teams in the MDIA this season, but they've learned a lot, and were able to pull it together for this final game. The game was actually closer than it appeared with PLU scoring 1 with seven seconds remaining, & an offsides with 2 minutes left lead to a PLU man-up goal. Again, anything can happen in a rivalry game, the two teams hate each other, but I do believe we're a bit more frustrated with our season and needed this game to prove ourselves.

I still have a smile on my face right now, I couldn't be prouder of the UPS Team.

I was wondering if anyone else missed the two games against division opponents? I was just thinking about this as we lead up to the last weekend. I know this has been hashed out alot, but how many teams would be willing to have that second game with an opponent even if it is non-league? I am very interested in scheduling two games with certain teams next year (a home and home) but am unsure if this is something other teams would be willing to do. Is this something other teams miss and would like to try next season? Or was this a one year fluke that only I appreciated?

This has happened many times in the past, and I don't think you'd have a hard time making it happen. SFU and Oregon have played twice in the same season so that both could get an additional great game without a long expensive trip out of the conference. Before PLU went to the B division they played UW for an additional game just to get another contest without severe travel costs.

I'm sure teams in your "neighborhood" would be interested in an additional contest that would NOT count as a divisional game. The divisional game would be scheduled by the league, and then you would have the prerogative to schedule the other game pending league approval on an additional date.

i have plenty of things to criticize your team about, but out of respect haven't said anything publicly.
