High School Season Starts TODAY!

Postby Gopherlax29 on Mon Apr 10, 2006 12:43 pm

The first games start today. I will try and keep up with the games scores to post over here and I hope you do the same. Maybe after this week we can put up the weeks key games and make predictions and talk HS in one topic, nicely.

Maple Grove @ Eden Prairie
Lakeville @ Minneapolis
Breck @ Mounds View
(these are the only varsity games listed on the MBSLA.org master schedule)

I am going with EP by 10, Lakeville by 2 and Breck by 10+

Looking ahead this week, my team Osseo starts action by hosting St. Cloud tomorrow and @ E.P. on Thursday night in the dome at 7:30. (If anyone wants to watch a good game)

My alma matter, Jefferson, opens the season hosting Breck on Thursday.

EP by 8
Lakeville by 2 (more experience with second year of qwuality coaching)
Moundview by 5 (would be surprised if Breck scored more than 6)

Gotta go with -

Lakeville by 4+ (good 9/10 and JV teams last year)
EP by a few (its Eden Prairie sports, too many guys not to have some talent)
Moundsview by 6 (best goalie in the state)

Is Breck on THAT BIG of a down year. I thought they had the coaching and youth systems (down to frosh level atleast (private school hard to develope youth leagues)) We will see I guess, first game of the year for a reason...good luck to all and post the scores if you get them!

Wow, some interesting scores. I was thinking that Lakeville would have been a little better this year. They have numbers out there usually. I was right on EP and WAY off on the others... Breck IS on a down year....

TODAYS GAMES
Roseville @ Centennial
St. Thomas @ Mahtomedi
St. CLoud @ Osseo
Owatonna @ Prior Lake
White Bear @ Stillwater

I am going to with Roseville by 5 (exp. factor)
Mahtomedi should win but St. Thomas has some athletes at that school ( STA by 1)
Won't comment on my own game except should be fun coaching against Grannes
and I don't know ANYTHIGN about the bottom 4 teams, however I will choose Prior Lake for Fleck's sake and Stillwater as a guess.

Mahtomedi 12
St Thomas Academy 11
OT

Mahtomedi 3 3 2 3 1
St Thomas 2 2 4 3 0

Quite the game. It seemed fairly evenly matched. Mahtomedi took an early lead but St Thomas wouldnt quit. Great play from Jason King (6 goals) for Mahtomedi and Joe Costello (7 goals) for STA. In the third, Marc Basara tood a hit and broke his collarbone. Needless to say, he didnt return. Tough start for the captain. Late in the 4th, St Thomas went up by 2 and held Mahtomedi for a couple minutes. Then with :35 left, Jason King made it to bring it within 1. Then, with :05 left, Jordan Ellis buried it to send it into overtime. After a few possesions by each team, Jake Sommer ended the game with a goal 1:30 into the OT.
