PNCLL Week #3 (2/16-2/22) - Predictions, Scores & Discus

Postby Kyle Berggren on Mon Feb 21, 2005 12:17 am

OSU 18 PLU 12 (or pretty close)

Linfield is by no means a bad team, but UPS played two games this weekend, both of which we looked horrible. #13 Taylor Brennan was a huge suprise to us, and scored their first 4 goals on his way to 5. We were prepared for their supposed go to guy (they went to Brennan), and kept Kearsley to 1g, on an unsettled EMO. My guys are hugely disappointed, but they know we sucked it up today. Today we decided to shoot stick side high for 3 quarters, and as good as their goalie is (good), we made it a bit too easy for him.... After getting our first game jitters out the day before, I expected to be stronger against Linfield, after all, we finished against L&C very well, and even today against Linfield we finished well. With all of that, I love my guys, I wouldn't ask for a different team, they showed heart today through many of the issues faced during the game, but our fire wasn't there until late in the fourth. This is the best team I've coached, and more than I could ever ask for, they will do great things this year.

Looks like scheduling these games early in the season was a good idea, because they don't affect league play.... Next weekend however, is PLU.... A league game, and very big test for my guys, and I believe that we'll be much better prepared 7 days from now.

Thank you Kevin Leary for making the trip down with us, I know you're about as busy as any one person can be (maybe not as busy as Todd), but we needed you. GAT!!!

OSU v SFU game

Postby teslax14 on Mon Feb 21, 2005 1:23 am

What is the deal with the OSU v SFU game? Does anyone have a game report as to what all happened in the game? It sounded like it was a good game and I am anxious to hear what went down.

That is a great win for Montana. It is good to see that they are getting their team together and going out there and putting a quality win together against a good team in Whitman.

OSU vs. PLU

Postby Dr. Jason Stockton on Mon Feb 21, 2005 1:47 pm

Oregon State came out like gangbusters in the first half, and I think the Lutes were still hungover from the Saturday night game vs. Oregon. . .It was 13-4 at the half, and it would have been worse had Bret Bartell not made several great saves in the first half.

The second half was a different story, and the Lutes came out of halftime fired up, and made a run at the Beavers. We got the score close at 15-11. . .but the clock was working against us, and we overextended our defense to try to get the ball and ended up getting a few penalties and the Beavers made us pay. The final was 18-12, but we were very happy with our second half performance and hope we can use that momentum to our benefit as we have a big league game against defending Division B Champs UPS.

Thanks OSU for a great contest. This Beaver team is very talented and could play spoiler this season in the A division (and almost did on Saturday.)

OSU and SFU comparison with common opponent

Postby PNWLaxer on Mon Feb 21, 2005 5:05 pm

Just a quick comparison of the games between OSU and SFU with PLU as a common opponent because that he what we all like to do isn't it. A common opponent although not a sure fire way of comparing the two teams does give some insight into what the teams are like.

SFU vs PLU - score 10-2
SFU vs OSU - score 8-7
OSU vs PLU - score 18-12

To me and this is only my opinion shows that 1) SFU's defence is solid. SFU gave up a total of 9 goals combined. Not too bad for one lacrosse game even better for 2 games. OSU gave up 12 to Fraser's 2 vs PLU 2) OSU can score 7 goals vs Fraser and 18 vs PLU. 3) Both Freshman goalies for the Beavers and the Clan can play. 4) SFU's offence does not seem to be as strong as it once was. OSU was able to put 18 in on PLU and SFU only managed 10.

A few notes from the three games
OSU was at least 2 hours late for their game vs SFU. Accident on a bridge and border issues were the reported cause, although a lone OSU player was at the field about noon. SFU in the mean time was on the field for those 2+ hours. OSU was without Tipton for the SFU game. Not saying that either issue was cause for the win or loss but both were factors in the game. In the OSU/PLU game both teams played the day before and had to travel to play the game, may have lead to a few more mistakes than usual.

Just one person's thoughts on the three games.

GU vs NDNU

Any word on the score between Gonzaga and Notre Dame de Namur? I really want to hear how the Zags held up against the upstart DII program.
