Final in Eau Claire...
UWEC - 2
UST - 8
An absolutely beautiful night for lacrosse. Eau Claire kept it a one goal game through the whole first half, but UST controlled the offensive zone for a large part of the second half. I heard this is what they did v. St. John's on Sunday?
To be honest, our goalie did one hell of a job tonight. Two shots were stopped with his face, and he did some amazing defense out of the crease. Here in EC we get pretty lucky with solid goalies.

A great game by St. Thomas, but I do have to cheer our defense and our very talented goalie, Mitch Davis. Combined, the defense and Mitch held an unrelenting Tommie squad that possessed the ball for more than 90% of the game to only 8 goals, 3 in the first half...a much smaller margin than even St. John's allowed.
As a team, we could have shown St. Thomas and the pollsters much more of a game, but we'll turn the dissapointment around this Friday when Bethel comes to town.

Sorry about being off topic!
Its not that the best athletes aren't playing lacrosse, its that the best lacrosse players are not all great athletes...
Let me explain.....
First, great lacrosse players cannot only play lacrosse!
Look at the DI rosters and check player bios....
What you will find is All-Conference,All-County, All-American in several other sports other than lacrosse. Mainly football and basketball.
Until we convince the great football and basketball players to play lacrosse in the Spring, Minnesota will never begin to send several players to big colleges to play lacrosse.

Thanks for the great game, I really enjoy being in that stadium.
The St. Thomas program is clearly heading in the right direction. Good coaching, good players, watch out for these guys in the B Division tournament.

Yeah St. Thomas played a hell of a game tonight they were focused and ready to play from the beginning. It was a well played game for both sides. St. Thomas will go far this year for sure

hey adam...?
i was looking over the stats and i see that your goalie (tom shcmidt?) had 27 saves ! wow.. i highly doubt that but it seems every team in the umll gives a goalie a save whether the shot hits the net or not, making goalies in the umll look amazing...

Historically goalies in the UMLL have been amazing especially around the late 1990's and early 2000's but then again we don't count so well up here.

I was at the game and the save stat, while it might seem high to some, fits in with the game I saw. I wasn't counting but he stoned a number of chances in tight.
I am preparing a statisitical analysis of the save stat within our league to distribute to the teams so as to address what seems to be the improper recording of saves.

Did you mean to say, whether the shot is going to hit the net or not?
As if it hits the net, we count that as a goal.
Perhaps we are recording the stat incorrectly, but we consider a save, if the goalie makes a play on the ball. Obviously, if it clearly wasn't going in, we wouldn't count it. However, isn't it nearly impossible to tell if it would have gone in or not, especially considering the score table's angle of view?
Again, if we're recording this improperly, we'll happily change it. We don't care too much about our stats looking good, other than the win loss record of course.
That said, Tom's previous save total's weren't anywhere near that, so I don't think it's a pattern for our team. The game last night was out of the ordinary. The Tommies really peppered him from the opening whistle, recording 44 shots total.
Looking at the stats for some other teams, leads me to believe we need to clarify this matter with the league.

I think Shcmidts saves is pretty accurate. We threw everything we had at him, at times shooting right at him, but he made some amazing saves also (5 hole kick save off the shin that I am sure he is feeling today). Last night was a fun game and well fought by the U. Thanks for the great game guys!!!

Speak for yourself. Last year I would lose the book after every game when a couple attackmen or middies would come over and be like "how many points did I get today?", "I had an assist on that other play too, ya know", etc.
