Rep Cynthia McKinney and the U.S. Capital Police

Capitol police chief faults McKinney for escalating incident

WASHINGTON (AP) -- U. S. Capitol Police Chief Terrance Gainer said Wednesday that Rep. Cynthia McKinney turned an officer's failure to recognize her into a criminal matter when she failed to stop at his request, and then struck him.

Is McKinney deflecting her actions or is there some merit to her accusations of racism??

I personally think she is being pompous and full of 'it'.

I think she's full of it. I just watched the interview of her on CNN and she's just making excuses for her poor judgement. The way she refused to answer a direct question was a perfect example of politicians at their worst.

This has been all over the radio up here in DC. Apparently, the most self-absorbed of politicians expect capitol hill police to memorize the faces of every single member of the senate and the house so as not to be "bothered" with security checkpoints.
People are in an uproar here at the slightest thought that this lady might not face charges. The consensus is that she should have been tazed.
Personally, I love that Tom DeLay has time to chime in on the issue and call the woman a racist.

When Jon Stewart is mocking you on the Daily Show, you know you're on the losing end. Anyone see last night's episode? The interviewer asked her if she had struck the officer. "Before I bring my two lawyers in, there's something you should know....) Stewart - "Guilty!"
John McCain made some humorous references to it as well - he is a great guy!

The basic rule for all of us because we have been taught- we can not strike a police officer.

What happened to "for the people, by the people, and of the people...?"

laxfan25, thanks for the correction, yet the idea is still there... Honestly, I still have trouble using this idiom as I can not remember which to put the words, "putting the cart before the horse" or "putting the horse before the cart." That is really the bane of my existence. :wink:

That's OK. My wife is a great one for mixing up certain words, such as aluminum and linoleum. Always a hoot when she talks about the linoleum siding on that house! :lol:

laxfan25 didn't say that. I said that. He then threw in an ancedote about his wife mixing up with "aluminum" and "linoleum." Thought that would clear up the confusion as to whom said that. My example of an idiom earlier had nothing to do with Rep. Cynthia McKinney if I am able to follow what you are thinking. I was just responding to laxfan25's helpful correction with Abraham Lincoln's famous quote.

She is Dave Adams' rep though and he only lives a few miles from me.
