I agree. That was what I thought, too right after I posted about feeling that Cornell would be back next year. Like what byualum said, things can change quickly for Cornell's fortunes next year. If David McKee is selected to play NHL next season, would he be the first Texan to be in the NHL or is there already one or two in the pro hockey ranks? I just can't recall one coming out of Texas playing in NHL.

I also have to keep in mind unless one or some of you can freely correct me that David may be picked in the middle of the pack, not even near the top of the pack, right?

Actually, Brian Leetch was the first Texas Born Player in the NHL, though he grew up in Mass. This could be the first Texas developed hockey player though...

Ryan Potulny will win it.

Elliott was outstanding Sunday night vs. Cornell.

I'm an idiot... The Hobey Hat Trick (the three finalists) was announced today:

Matt Carle - Denver
Chris Collins - Boston College
Brian Elliot - Wisconsin

Of this group I've got to believe Carle wins it - WCHA Player of the Year and WCHA Defensive Player of the Year.

Potulny didn't even make the final group...he did, however, sign a professional contract today with the Philadelphia Flyers. Rumor is Danny Irmen also is leaving Minny early to sign with the Minnesota Wild.

Matt Carle also just signed with the San Jose Sharks....

I would like to see Elliot win it but I think the stretch of games he missed with his knee injury may have hurt him (no pun intended). What a different team the Badgers are with him on the ice though.

The Badgers would still be a 'good' team without him but thier defensive numbers wouldn't be even close to what they are with him in there. We'll see though.

On the topic of next year...The badgers have 5 seniors I believe its 3 forwards and two defensemen. Thier top defensment Tom Gilbert will be a huge loss and the leadership of McMurchy and Burish will be a hit to that team but they are stacked below in thier freshmen sophs and junior class... I think they would have to be a favorite to be preseason next year returning thier two leading scorers and thier netminder! Not to mention they are the favorites to win it all right now....

The biggest problem for Cornell would be if McKee left before his senior season. He was a finalist for the Hobey Baker Award last season and didn't have quite the same numbers this year (22 wins vs. 27 wins in '05, 2.08 GAA vs. 1.24 GAA in '05).

McKee signed today with Anaheim.

So who is going to take the games tomorrow afternoon/night???

North Dakota v Boston College

Wisconsin v. Maine

My picks with the WCHA bias would be North Dakota and Wisco in the final with Wisconsin winning Saturday nights battle 4-2 with an empty net goal...

I like NoDak over BC, something like 4-2 and Wisconsin over Maine 2-0. Then NoDak over Wisconsin 3-1. TJ Oshie named most outstanding player...or Maybe Jordan Parise.

Badgers over Bears 3-0
BC over North Dakota 4-2

Then, of course, Badgers over BC, 3-2 (OT).
Game winning goal by my boy from high school, the polish prince, joe pavelski.

BC over the Fighting Sioux 6-5
Badgers over Maine 5-2

What a game by Elliot. He's had himself quite the year. When he played here in Mankato after returning from his injury, he totally was not the same goalie. Them were probably the two worst games of his career. The next question is will her stay or will he go pro. I think the WCHA is going to have another champion for the 5th straight year.

Collin's hat trick yesterday helped his chances for the Hobey... To a point where I'm nervous for my boy B Elliott today. Anyone know what time the award is announced?

Folks in Wisconsin will now be singing, "On Wisconsin!" as they won the NCAA Div. 1 hockey title with a 2-1 win over Boston College.

As most of you probably already know this, Matt Carle won the Hobey Baker award.
