I don't want to be snotty... but why are some pollsters voting Utah ahead of Minnesota-Duluth? Duluth beat Utah... right?

Any voters want to offer up their rational?

Because...

Dan,

You will often find examples of a team ranked below a team it beat -- because of the totality of season results for both teams. I dropped UMD in my rankings based on the Bulldogs' bad losses to both Michigan and to Oakland since the last poll. I can't speak for any other pollsters.

Personally I'm more surprised that a team like Texas Tech -- with zero wins over the Top 25 and three losses to ranked teams by an average of over eight goals a game -- gets ranked 23rd. But thats just my opinion...

Utah beat Arizona and Cal Poly. Arizona and Cal Poly beat BYU and Poly beat Oregon. In turn, Duluth got hammered by Oregon. Perhaps voters are overlooking the fact that Duluth beat Utah and are looking at Utah's quality wins. In addition, it seems voters have forgiven Poly for losing to Duluth and have given them due credit for their quality wins. In addition, Duluth got killed by an Oakland team that did not have any wins against ranked teams until last week.

You need forgiveness if you lose to Duluth?

I agree with your reasoning above. Utah and Cal Poly have both had fantastic seasons that cannot be overlooked.

ouch is right, especially since florida state is my team. if all the favorites win throughout florida state would have to go through colorado, csu, ucsb, then sonoma.....talk about a tough road to the championship

those are some pretty intriguing matchups though. If those were the matchups, are there any teams that can pull out a first round upset? Any other sleepers we might see in the final four this year?

One thing that has really changed since the last tourney or 2 is that getting out of the second round is no sure thing any more. This year is no different. In fact, for some teams, getting out of the first round may be difficult as we have already seen Arizona beat BYU & Cal Poly beat Oregon, both potential first round matches.

How is VTech and Georgia Tech ranked so high still.

VTech, while they have played a few highly ranked teams close still do not have a single win against a ranked opponent. While this is somewhat do to the make up of there schedule, it just doesn't seem right to have them at # 14 when the best team they have beaten is Clemson or Wake Forest. Definatly a top 25 caliber team though

Georgia Tech also seems to be a bit out of place in my opinion. They only have one win against a #21 Michigan State, and after that there most impressive win is a now unranked BC. Just because a team has played a few highly ranked teams close doesn't warrant this high of a ranking.

I guess this is just a case of once a team makes the difficult climb in the ranks, it is also difficult for them to drop down. I also think that wins (especialy against highly ranked teams) are more important than playing teams close and gaining a bunch of W's from unranked teams.

I also feel that the results of the ASU vs. UCSD game were not reflected in this poll. ASU moved up two positions, yet gained a bit of point totals. UCSD remained in the same position. Seems like ASU's win was a bit ignored. Although ASU still has UCSB and Arizona coming up and can still make a big impact, and show the pollsters what they got.

ASU almost doubled their point total since the last poll --- going from 140 points to 269 points. Some of you guys are too preoccupied with poll position. You should be more concerned with overall point totals.

Points are nice, but they won't get you to Dallas!
