Astroturf Field Striping Tape

Does anyone happen to know of a type/brand of tape that could be used for field lining on astroturf? I'm looking for something specific that is guaranteed not to leave any type of residue when it is removed from the turf (this turf is the older hard astroturf).

My dilemma is that we need a guarantee no residue or markings will be left on the turf before we lay anything on the field available to us. We only need something temporary for one night at a time. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Colored duct tape worked for us when we played in the Bubble at Iowa before they switched to the new turf stuff.

if it's astroturf i'd go with the duct as well. on the nike stuff the duct can pull out the "grass" our school makes us use that lame blue painters tape.

We use regular duct tape. Go to a hardware store and they should have several different colors. I recommend you buy white duct tape although it is more expensive then regular grey, but it will be much easier to see. It takes us about 3 rolls to do the creases, end lines, and wings which is what we have to add. About 6.95 for one of the really large rolls and your looking at about 22 bucks a game. It won't leave any marks as long as it is carpet/astro turf and not field turf. The only way it will leave a mark is if u leave the tape on during the day then the sun will basically burn the tape into the field leaving a mark. If someone at your school needs reassurance I can put you in touch with our associate director of athletics as he has approved this for us.

Can anyone possibly give me a specific item or brand ID that we could refer to? The field administrators require prior approval/guarantee of the tape product before we lay one line on the field...

3M Duct Tape - The link is not working right but just go to home depot's web site and search duct tape and the 3M stuff is listed as the "most popular".

We use something called floor tape. It is real nice and leave nothing behind. We actually got i from our local athletic supplier. It works out real nice and comes off a lot cleaner then any other tape we tried. We actually leave it on for weeks through the rain, snow and sun. I found a link but just ask your athletic deparment where they get like thier field paint and they will probably be able to hook you up. We pay like $5 a roll for it.

For our high school semi-finals last year we used the home field for the Minnesota Thunder Soccer team.

They were *very* specific about what sort of tape to use. Traditional "duct" tape is very difficult to remove, especially if left down for a period of time and will leave adhesive residue on the field so we couldn't use that.

The Thunder specified "Pro Gaffer Tape" which turned out to be excellent. The soccer team actually uses it to mark the field for their games.

It sticks really well, comes up quite nicely, and comes in lots of colors and widths. We bought ours from Tour Supply Inc which happens to have a local office but is primarily a mail order business.

As can be expected, this tape is quite a bit more expensive than duct tape but given that it won't damage the field and stays down as well as anything, I'd say it is worth it.

Check the left hand side for different sizes and colors. We happened to use 2" Red but you can even meet the official NCAA rules with 4" wide tape!

I agree with Floor Tape. It comes in all sorts of colors. We used to use colored duct tape but our AD was not ahppy with the residue it left. Floor Tape is akin to wider electrical tape.

Not sure of a brand but any sporting goods store should have it in stock.

Except the goal lines need to be 2" wide, although it shouldn't be too hard to cut 6' worth in half for that. But it's a heck of a lot cheaper to buy the 2" and double up for the midline, which has to be 4".

I am not sure if this is an option but we used ivory soap bars on the old school turf. The soap residue wears off over time.

I will go one better. Once when I was at Tennessee, we were playing at South Carolina. They used to use a field near a commuter airport. The USC boys were lining the field with chalk, using a witch's hat (parking cone?). When the chalk ran out, the freshmen were dispatched to the local Bi-Lo. THe returned with boxes of Bisquick and finished lining the field with it. Glad it didn't rain that afternoon.

If only it would of rained. You could have had victory pancakes. The next question would of been who brought the syrup?

We've used chalk and bisquick when I was at PLU... Chalk typically has lime in it, bisquick leaves a residue.... obviously... We use water soluble marking paint, from Aervoe Industries... all year long, rain washes it away, or you can scrub it away by hand. UW Huskies got us using it, and we won't go back. They'll send you a free sample, then you can test it on a corner of the field to make sure it works for you, but they use it at Qwest field here, & that's usually good enough for our homefield.
