As the game goes on, the players will feel the effects of the mud in different ways. Their passes and shots will not be as accurate as the accumulation of mud on the stick will affect them. Also, their legs will get heavier running in this stuff; it's not like running on a regular field.

I had to play under these conditions on our home field when I was in highschool...absolutely brutal.
You would think a national championship contender year in and year out like Sonoma would have either a better conditioned field (i.e. one that could stand the rain) or at least an alternative field they could use when conditions get this bad.
I think the games at this field this week might be slightly misrepresentative of what the match-ups would look like on a nice field with the sun shining (now I know that weather conditions are an unavoidable part of the game and therefore cannot be used as an excuse). I don't know if the scores would be any different under perfect conditions, I simply think it is fair to say that the games would look a lot different.
I feel a bit bad for the out of conference teams teams who came out to play Sonoma this year (Oregon and Texas A&M...because there is no way that field will have recovered by then). They certainly didn't make trips to sunny California for these weather and field conditions. Some spring break!

The only thing that could handle the rain that they have had would be some sort of turf field. I don't know what is available up near RP, but I don't think there are that many turf fields.
Losing the ball in the mud reminds me of playing at Oxy after 3 solid weeks of rain. That was all-time.

On Wednesday, Doug Carl told me that there was a new turf field (3 fields actually) in planning. A few years away.
Next year they may have access to 2 high school turf fields that are being built.
Last year Minnesota had their coldest May 12th in history for the MDIA tournament. This year Northern California is having their wettest March in history. Go figure.
