Goalie Gear

Postby byualum on Wed Mar 29, 2006 3:55 pm

Is the NFSH rule book available online anywhere? I have a youth goalie asking if he can wear goalie pants. The NCAA rule book addresses states the goalie cannon use a hockey goalie glove, but doesn't mention pants.

Anyone know the NFSH ruling on goalie gear?

Thanks.

The NFHS rulebook is not available online. Rule 1-9-1-k states the GK may wear football pants with or without pads and shin guards.

Would you assume that hockey pants fall under the umbrella of "football pants"?

If you mean "hockey blockers," no.

No, I'm talking about the short pants with the padding in the thigh and on the hips.

Ah, breezers! I don't think they'd be a problem. The main thing we're worried about is the unfair advantage; these are just safety gear, they aren't significantly increasing surface area.

You may as well just wear football pants with the pads then. I can tell you from wearing my hockey pants/shorts with the padding in them, that there is more of a restriction of movement. However, when I was in high school, a goalie on a team we played against wore almost complete goalie gear.
