Bad News for Duke
Get real Tim, most college students through out the country, and I imagine in Canada as well, (Especially Canada, eh?) have been charged with these same alcohol related offenses, especially if they are in fraternities or sororities where the alcohol tends to run rampant!

Lax_Stats wrote:(3)Quite often most accusations of this kind result from money issues between the customer and the escort/dancer. There is the possibility that the women didn't receive the money they felt they were entitled to and have concocted these allegations as a form of revenge. As a defense attorney who has had numerous clients both of whom have been customers as well as escorts, i've seen it all and heard pretty much every story and situation. I have even heard of women pulling used condoms from the trash to get a persons DNA.
i think this is pretty telling about the credibility of a certain apoligist on this board. if you are a real defense attorney and youve taken advantage of your position as a representative of clients to use them for "escort" services, shame on you. there are honest people at McDs that dont steal fries on their lunch break. it seems as if you may have some kind of psychological connection with these players and can understand the thoughts and ideas of someone who will take advantage of a woman in a precarious situation.......
peace.

Well in my years with the SFU team, I don't recall anyone on the team being charged with anything.
If you think most college students are getting charged, I think you're dead wrong. I think you're better suited to covering up a crime than you are about speaking for the drinking habits of college students everywhere.

If you did commit this crime, why would you not clean up the place with bleach thus getting rid of any possible DNA evidence? Why would you not look for signs that the females had ever been there and get rid of them, such as 5 red fingernails? Why would you not wash any rugs, towels or etc? Why would you keep a tube of KY jelly around? Why would they leave a make-up bag with the dancer's ID in it just laying around? Why would you keep cell phones or computers in the house with potentially incriminating pictures or other evidence on them? Why would you not scrub down the bathroom to remove all evidence that the dancer had been in this room where the alleged assault took place?

Not sure if you are joking or not - But I interpret that post much differently.
He/She is merely stating that he/she has defended both escorts and those that have employed escorts in court. No other "relationship" is implied when I read it.
If you were just joking - I retract the above and plead an impaird sense of humor as my defense.

And Tim - what is the drinking age in Canada? I honestly don't know. Is it 21 - which makes 2/3 to 3/4 of the students below drinking age?
Or is it 18? Which makes most students in Canada of age?

Rob, the drinking age across most of Canada is 19. It's 18 in Alberta, and I think Québec, but 19 for the most part.

Oh, I didn't say they were innocent or guilty. One side is telling the truth.
The one question I want to know is where was the escorts' escort?

Duke's lacrosse team suspended pending DNA results
ESPN.com news services
DURHAM, N.C. -- About a third of the members of the Duke men's lacrosse team -- embroiled in a rape investigation that caused the school to suspend the team from playing -- have been previously charged with misdemeanors stemming from drunken and disruptive behavior in the past three years, according to court documents quoted in Tuesday's editions of the Raleigh News and Observer.

My apologies to my friend Rob.

As distasteful as this thread has become, I'll still post my thoughts. This is a pretty sad day for the game we all love, and I've given this matter a good deal of thought.
The behavior of the captains is a huge disappointment. Even the unquestioned events leave Duke Lacrosse, and our game in general, with a wound that will fester. To many people, lacrosse players are just a bunch of arrogant and spoiled college boys. The actions of this team only encourages this perception.
This behavior would get you in serious trouble at Minnesota, and most likely any other club level team.
We've taken on a commitment that entails teaching our players to act like gentlemen. What is the point of a lacrosse orginization if not to encourage it's members to better themselves and their community? We ask more of our family than the "typical" college age behavior as alluded to by Lax_Stats. It's not ok to drink when you're underage, and it's not ok to urinate in public, it's certainly not ok to host a party with strippers, especially when you are the captains of an elite level lacrosse team!
With added responsibility comes accountability. I am curious about what may happen to the coaching staff at this point. This could have happened anywhere, but it does seem that no one was driving the bus down in Durham.
I must agree with Jolly Roger, a convergance of terrible decisions, leaving no one unscathed.

Agreed.... It's sad that people who don't know a thing about our sport are exposed to lacrosse due to the situation at Duke.
I don't think this thread has become distasteful.

Huh? As I understand it, they (40+ members of the entire team) voluntarily offered up DNA samples even though they haven't been charged with a crime yet. I would imagine they are being advised by individual and/or Duke legal counsel not to speak publically on the matter until the authorities make a decision whether or not to charge someone with a crime.

As far as I know, the captains suggested that they would not play any games until the DNA tests were conducted. However, they did not volunteer the DNA samples, they were forced to by the investigators. The team has been virtually silent and has not helped investigators whatsoever according to every news outlet. Let's make sure that we are painting this story accurately.

Some of the posts I found to be distasteful, specifically the stripper is just a prostitute comment, and the conjecture involving why they didn't clean up the mess. Perhaps I'm just sensitive, my mom always said I was sensitive.
The behavior of the captains I was referring to was the hosting the party to begin with. I expect better of our captains, and would think Duke's coach would as well.

Source?
Here is the quote from the article I read:
On Thursday, Durham police collected DNA samples from 46 members of the team as part of their investigation into a report that three team members raped a woman at the party March 13. No one has been charged with a crime, but Alleva said the police investigation is not over.
Sounds voluntary to me. If it was unvoluntary, they would have to charge someone with a crime. (One of you legal eagle types feel free to back me on on that one.)
Don't forget that conjecture is a two way street.
