Who doles out the assists in the NHL? You always hear the announcement of the goal followed by the assist(s) Who is determining the assists in the NHL? I'm pretty sure there is an official scorer, but does he wind back the film to look for the last player or players who touched the puck to determine the assist(s)?

And we've seen how accurate that is.

You can get an assist for skating over the puck!

You can get credited with scoring a goal as well if your team mate takes a slap shot and it hits you in the head and goes in the goal! LOL

Wouldn't it be the judges who keep track of the stats?

At one time, the referees used to be one of the scoring judges. I think you're right that they have changed that to 3 judges now.

Don't get me started about this one-I have had some arguments about the spirit of this rule. That got me thinking-I know if you get a pass, drop it, pick it up and then put in a goal-there's no assist (I know-I have absolutly been getting burned by this situation this year), is that really in the spirit of what is written in the actual rule book. Just curious about people's thoughts.

LOL - AND you get an Goal! UNASSISTED!! Much more impressive than being a weakling relying on your teammates to spoon feed you.

The referee in the ring keeps stats during a boxing match?
