Will Whittier cancel the game due to wet fields? It looks like Friday will be the only really rainy day.

This could be a problem all over the WCLL this week as the games that are slated for Northern California will possibly be affected by muddy fields and/or unavailable fields.

Our head coach, Nate Watkins, was Whittier's Defensive Coordinator last year and he told us that despite their varsity status, they were always kicked off the field if there was rain. Looks pretty likely if the weather hits...

If it's not rained out, here's my opinion/prediction for the game:

I think the UCSB vs. Whittier game will definitely be in favor of SB. Whittier beat us in a scrimmage by 3 or 4 without 3 of our starters in. Granted, it was a practice-type situation, but my teammates agreed that they are very good, they don't make a lot of mistakes, they pressure well on D, but they didn't look as amazing as we thought they would. From what I've read about SB, and based on their performance so far, I expect SB to win by about 3-4 goals, if not more. This may be a bold guess, but there it it, I said it.

Probably have to take into account SB's body count. 2:1 over Whittier. Although if the weather isn't great, perhaps Whittier's middies will stay fresh.

For the first (and maybe only) time in history, I will agree with the lax on this one. A muddy field is easier to play in and I think you end up less tired. Mostly because it's not so hard on your knees and legs. I don't know physically why exactly, but I've always found that to be true. That being said, I don't think conditioning will be a problem for Whittier as from second hand knowledge, their running schedule is pretty severe.

i'de have to disagree. on a muddy field, everything you wear ends up weighing more and each step is sticky and takes a little more effort to move around.

Hey, I've been called an "athletic" goalie before!! I can tell you a lot about running. Every time I warm up, I get a good look at the other poor schlubs running their laps, so I would say I am pretty qualified to make such a statement!
