If the national tournament was tomorrow;
BYU and UCSD would meet in round one, as would Lindenwood and Colo.
Round two:
1. SSU vs. 8. UCSD (played, one goal win for SSU)/ BYU
2. CSU vs. 7. Colorado/ Lindenwood
3. Michigan vs. 6. Oregon
4. FSU vs. 5. UCSB
SECOND MDIA Div. A Top 25 Poll is out (3/8/06)!

Pretty interesting that since the last poll, Cal Poly beats BYU by 2, Chapman by 4, and Chico by 5 (with a lone loss to UCSD) and only gains 6 addition total points. That sounds like a robbery. All the voters 2 weeks ago saying they wished they could have their vote back after Poly beat BYU.... they didn't seem to vote much different this time. Especially considering the fact that BYU beat UCSB. Granted, the whole thing gets messy with wins/losses against common opponents... but for a team to have only 2 losses (both to top 10 teams) and be ranked 14 seems a little crazy. But then again the season has been going a little crazy.

Can't disagree with that. I thought Poly would be higher also.

UCSB beat BYU, not the other way around.

I believe that there are a lot of evenly matched teams this year, aside from maybe 3. I also think that the voters did a great job with this poll. You talk about big wins and loses, this is just the start of the season. I can not wait to see how the rest of the season turns out, and how teams will rise or fall. Again well done and good luck to everyone.

Consider this...Arizona Lost to Utah by 1. Utah lost to Chico by 1 and Chapman by 7. So Arizona lost to a team that lost to two teams that Cal Poly beat, yet they are ranked 48 points ahead of Cal Poly.

3 SELC teams? Maybe not. WCLL forum reports UCSD 17-VaTech 7 and a great game by the VaTech goalie kept it from being worse.CATLAX MAN wrote:If the tourney was being held today, these teams would be in (assuming highest rated team in each conference gets AQ):
WCLL - (4) Sonoma, UCSB, UCSD, Arizona
RMLC - (3) CSU, BYU, Colorado
SELC - (3) Florida St., VA Tech, GA Tech
CCLA - (1) Michigan
PNCLL - (1) Oregon
GRLC - (1) Lindenwood
UMLL - (1) Minnesota-Duluth
LSA - (1) Texas Tech
PCLL - (1) Northeastern
On the outside - Cal Poly, Oakland, Utah

That UCSD demolition of Va. Tech adds even more weight to the argument that Cal Poly is ranked too low--they were very competitive with the Tritons. . .
But it's really early, and Cal Poly will have plenty of time to move up, which I expect they will.
I think the WCLL will get 5 teams in when all is said and done. (SSU, UCSD, UCSB, Cal Poly, Arizona)

I'd put Poly or Chapman in over Arizona. While Chapman seems to have gone through some growing pains, they must have grown up some in their win against U of A 16-8... I guess we'll have a more definitive answer after this weekend's game with Chapman vs. UCSD

Cal Poly is under-rated. I saw them play against Chapman and it was a good game for three quarters until Cal Poly pulled away in the fourth qtr. I was impressed with both teams but what I remember most is Cal Poly's speed; especially on ground balls. It was the first time I saw Casey play and he greatly exceeded my expectations. I also saw Arizona play Chapman, and that game was not very close. Chapman controlled the game between the restraining lines causing numerous turnovers and keeping the ball in their offensive zone. Chapman looked very fast in that game and dominated time of possesion. I think all three teams are talented, but the top ranked team should clearly be Poly.

There are some excellent posts in regards to the polling of ASU, Chapman, and Chico in the WCLL thread. They should probably be in here so I put a link.

Now see before I might have agreed with you that Cal Poly was better but looking at the latest scores I don't know. Cal Poly lost to Utah in OT, a team Chapman put away by i think 7 points. Also it appears Chapman this weekend matched up against UCSD better than Poly did. Tough to call out there in the WCLL...
